Dumb drivers in the snow
Ok... with all of this snow I know there has to be some good stories... I have two to tell but will hold one for later. Dallas Texas had a foot of snow... Amazing. So of course every Tom, Dick and Harry all felt the need to take their sedan out in the storm. Anyway, I had been pulling folks out of ditches, up a hills, and off curbs. The best one was a Mercedes that was in a ditch. He lost control going down a small hill and ended up in a ditch. I pulled him out and offered to tow his car back to his house. He insisted on venture down the hill... Long story short he did not listen to me and slid down the hill slammed his hood into an embankment with his rear wheels up in the air. He was fine, but I left him there... figured the world was a safer place with his car out of commission.

I am in South Georgia, the last time we got snow was 1996 until last Friday night, and we got maybe 2 inches, and it was hell on earth here. People would just pull over and run in the ditch and it was not even slick. I am from North Carolina, so I can get around in the snow but people here can not!!!!
I don't have any recent stories. I do hate it when people in cars tailgate me in snowy or icy conditions because I have 4wd and they do not. In my unscientific survey I have noticed Jeep Wrangler drivers and pick-up truck drivers use the most common sense in winter conditions. For example, a few years ago I was driving home from work on the expressway. It's snowing like hell and everyone is doing 40-45mph max. Some fool in an escalade with 22's blows past me like I'm standing still. A few minutes later I come around a turn and there is the Escalade off the road and on it's side. At least it was a one car accident and he didn't take out any other vehicles with him.
I was in the Tidewater area of Virginia a couple of weeks ago when they got the first 8 inches or so. Several hundred accidents, The state police were on the TV telling people that they can't drive highway speeds on ice, no trucks to clean it up, etc.
I saw a couple of large SUV's (2wd) with dubs on them trying to punch through the snow banks on the side of the road. Most of them just ended up getting stuck or ripped thier body cladding off. I saw a small car (hyundai i think) try the snow bank thing and ended up getting all 4 wheels off the ground!
It;s for people like these that I used to cruise the town in my CJ-7 with a tow strap and charge $25 to pull them out of ditches, driveways, banks, etc!

During the big storm 2 weekends ago I volunteered at the local hospital, picking up doctors and nurses to and from work. It was a great cause, but truth be told, I did it for the fun of driving in a snowstorm that dumped 30+ inches in the area. On Saturday there were a few idiots out in their cars getting stuck and making life miserable for me. There was a Toyota Corolla stuck at the end of a long exit ramp with several other vehicles behind it. A XJ tried to go around and got hung up on a curb that was buried. I pulled him out and them a H1 came along and pulled out the Toyota. Sunday was worse when more small car drivers with their big rims and low profile tires thought it would be a good idea to venture out and get stuck. I helped push some that were in my way, but refused to pull them out for 2 reasons. One, they deserved to be stuck for being so stupid, and the second most important reason is without proper recovery points, I wasn't about to get blamed for damage to their vehicle.
Countless times over the years I have had people pass me on 2 lane, slippery roads. I usually drive between 40 and 50 in 4wd depending on how how deep the snow is, visibility conditions, and if snow is drifting over part of the lane (which can yank you offroad real quick). In other words, I am not poking along.
Several times I have come upon the same vehicle that passed me, now a set of tailights out in the field or ditch.
I did stop once for a guy who rolled doing this, and another who hit a tree. Otherwise, if they are upright and intact, I keep right on going. Stopping on our roads with no shoulders and sometimes deep ditches is not often a good idea anyway.

Being an ATL man and moving to OHIO it was by nature to buy me a JEEP. It was the last weekend my DAD in Ga starred at the snow and i was like " It's only snow." He was like " Yah but you get it everyday, Idk how you drive in this Sh!t!" And there was maybe 2in on the ground.
Yeah im from Illinois and am always driving over in Missouri. Its like whenever it starts snowing cars seem to always be off the side of the highway, upsidedown, and in ditches. Thier state slogan is "The Show Me State" I think it should be the "Show Me How To Drive State" Just my Oppinion.
