Default Electric Window Pinch Protection - or Not!

I've noticed that the electric windows on my 4-door sahara make a really satisfying thud when they close. I've never had electric windows that arrived in the closed position with such authority.

This got me to thinking (always a dangerous thing). What would happen if someone got a finger stuck in there? Do the windows have pinch protection? My 2003 VW Jetta had such sensitive pinch protection that the odd leaf would send the window flying back open.

So I experiemented. First, I stuck a rolled up napkin in the window and rolled it up. The napkin got well and good squished. Maybe it wasn't firm enough to trigger the sensor? Next up was a chapstick tube. The window crushed the chapstick tube to half it's original thickness.

Keep those fingers clear!

You didn't notice that feature in the brochure? It's not a power window - it's a "transparent electronic guillotine."

That function can be a lifesaver with kids, there have been documented fatalities with kids leaning on a door with their head out the window and pressing on the armrest/window switch and choking to death. We had one downtown about 2 months ago (grandmother not paying attention, unbuckled child in rear, strangled while she drove down the street). And also applies to moon roofs, had a fellow leave his daughter in his car at a softball park while he went to talk to someone, she stood up on the console and looked out the moonroof, activated the console switch and was choked to death.

My kids are older now, but when they were younger I never gave it a thought how dangerous they can be, only takes a couple of minutes with them out of your sight.

True. I find the window lock button to be worth using. The good thing is that the Jk has the rear window switched on the back of the center console. This should eliminate the kids from playing with the buttons.

There was a young kid in Calgary that was just killed recently in a power window. I dont remember what kind of car it was though.

Hell it took me 20 minutes to find the switch. Unless your toddler is into gymnastics I think they'll be safe
