Question Engine Reving at high RPM while Clutch is engaged??

Over my holidays....I had a weird thing happen to our UJK 6spd Manual.

I was going at highway speeds approx. 100km/hr and as I was slowing down for a red light, I engaged the clutch and slipped the JK into 1st gear. When I did this the engine continued to rev at 2000 RPM and would not drop down until I slipped the tranny into neutral and disengaged and then re-enaged the clutch.

My wife was freaking out thinking I was on the gas reving the motor to race a mustang GT

Anyone experience this at all????

Did you have the Cruise control on? IF so, I bet the clutch interlock switch is sticking.

cruise control was not on.....I just kept the jeep in 6th gear until I basically stopped fully...then engaged into first and the engine just kept on rev'ing at 2000 RPM even with the clutch depressed.

Mine also does some funny things with the revs once in a while. Yesterday for instance, the idle kept dropping at the light to the point where I thought it might stall out. And yes, I've also had it high-idle when I put in the clutch but it always seems to go down after a few seconds.

It freaked the crap out of me with it still reving for about 5 to 7 secs....like the throttle was stuck. I guess I will caulk it up as normal.

I know a few times at stop lights the engine will chug along like it is going to stall as well but it usually only happens on really hot days.

I'm surprised you could even get into 1st gear at that speed.

I slipped it from 6th Gear to 1st when i came to a stop at the light with the clutch engaged....but the engine just kept on reving like I was still cruising at 100km/hr.

I thought it was just my engine that chugged along like a panting dog on a hot day. Do you find it idles a little rough in the warmer months?

Actually I do find it runs rough on the hot days....especially anything over 30C it idles rough at stops...and at times it shakes and it seems like it wants to stall. I thought maybe elevation maybe an issue???? As I noticed at sea level....it idle much rougher than when I am upwards of 500-1000m elevation.
