Default engine or trans acting up after offroad

On my way back home I had it on cc at 65. Steped on the gas and only rpms went up and speed did not increase at all! Tried again and same thing. Engine screaming and not moving any faster at all!
WTF.
I hit the brakes and slowed down and then it was fine.
Any ideas?

Just took a 1200 mile trip to new York from Florida, I had to get the rpms up to 4k to get passing power on I-95. What were your rpms at?

Don't know what to think of that. Torque converter maybe? Silly question, but did you check tranny fluid level?

Only 8000 miles on it. Did not think I need to check it so soon

Only mentioned that because thread title included "after offroad", where anything can get tore up. But I spend an inordinate amount of time looking under my Jeep/checking stuff after I beat on it /shrug.

I do not rock crawl. But if banged down on anything I will look for damage. I have had branches jammed up underneath the Jeep that did not need to stay there. And brush and grass up onto the exhaust where it might eventually ignite. If you were into the mud, it is hard to see much until you get the mud off.

Mostly for leaks, since most trails are over a 2 hour drive from home for me.

check your transmission fluid level and when looking underneath, for signs of leaks if no obvious damage.

were you in 4 lo or other gear where you had to change gears? just wondering if maybe it was not fully engaged until you got it down to slower speed.

I see you are running 315/70/17 tires . Are you running stock gears ?
