Default ESP/ BAS Light...HELP

On this past Monday I went wheelin' in the snow....hit up some hill climbs and did some mud crossings; I also pulled a friend out of a mud hole. It was extremely cold and my Jeep was covered in ice afterwards....I washed it immediately and pulled into a heated garage.

The next day when I started up my Jeep the ESP/ BAS light came on and the ESP is off (it is ususally on upon start up). I tried disconnecting the battery and hooking it back up to reset everything with no luck....

Anyone have this light come on before??? I have an appointment with the dealership the day after Christmas but I'm not sure if they'll cover it under warranty & I don't want to fork over a bunch of $$$ for something that doesn't make a difference.

I would say to check everything on your lift for tightness. Do you have an adjustable trackbar? The mounts loosening up are a big thing that might cause this. Also, something simple, since the weather has gotten colder is your tire pressure ok? I had mine recently cause me some trouble when taking a slow turn and after checking my suspension for tightness, I found the tire pressure was down to about 26 lbs. After airing back up, I haven't had any more trouble.

Also make sure your steering wheel is perfectly centered. If you bent something and the steering wheel is off a bit, the ESP light will come on.

The same thing happen to me. Take it to the dealer! They replaced my clockspring-steering colunm and R&R Steering Angle sensor and reset ECU---
ALL UNDER WARRANTY --- it took about an hour-- easy

Hey Guys...

I just got back from some pretty serious (to me) rock crawling on Chinaman's gulch in Colorado. My undercarriage definitely took some pretty big hits.

The ESP BAS light came on while I was driving home and isn't going off.

I've given the Jeep a one over and there really is only scratches on the skid plate.

I've heard horror stories about dealers voiding warranties because you "took it off road"... anyone have this happen? You think it will be no questions asked warranty repair?

make sure your steering wheel is centered(the jeep logo is straight) and if not it is real easy to do.

Thanks for the reply Fish. What to do if the Jeep logo isn't centered perfectly?

How does it know the alignment has been corrected? Does the light stay on when you start it in the garage.. then when you pull out on the street.. get some speed up it see that everything has been corrected and the light goes off?
