The latest issue of Overland Journal shows the J8 with the habitat. It seems really nice, but that's a lot of packing space forfeited. I opted for an overhead rack and will continue to pack a small tent. I guess that's the backpacker in me coming out.

Nice JK - I am going same route as you. 4 season tent but using the money saved to rack for inside that vector off road will start selling next month, Fridge, and dual battery...

Please tell me more. And I have the Benchmark Designs dual battery tray on order and will order a fridge once that is here--they are notoriously slow, so who knows when that will be.

I also installed the Outback Adventures work table on the tailgate ...

I was just looking at this tent top and almost pulled the trigger but the wife talked me down.

Cost aside, for overlanding do you guys think a roof rack is better or a four person tent top. (I have a family of me toos that I can never leave behind). I love that multi use nature of the roof racks and bolting some key items like a hi lift. But I also love that this tent will fit all four of us, seems to sit 2-4in lower, and is more streamlined than a roof rack (maybe 1/2-1 mpg more).

Do any of you tenters really enjoy/prefer your tent on the ground to a rack mounted tent or maybe something like this jk habitat?
