Default Factory Axle

Has anyone cracked a front axle from routine driving? I have managed to crack my front axle housing and the dealer is not wanting to cover it bc I have 35s. I have rarely even put my JK in 4wd much less abused it. It has just been an around town with the top down fun vehicle with the exception of taking it hunting a couple of times. I just turned 12k miles too, so we are not talking about too much driving. Who all has had, or not had any axle problems when running larger tires. I was told when I bought the Jeep from the dealership to keep the lift to 3" and under and I would be fine on all warranty issues.

I know the law that states they must prove to me that my tires are what caused it. Their word is not binding and the burden of proof lies on them. Jeeps are made for abuse.... right? But riding around town 99% of the time and breaking an axle.... come on.

Would like to hear from some people out there saying they have or have not had problems out of their factory axles.

Is it cracked on the passengerside tube near the trackbar bracket? I remember seeing a few threads awhile back where people had the tube crack there. I'll see if I can locate the threads...

I will have to go look. The dealer has had it a week and I need to calm down a notch or 2 before going up there. They don't want to mess with it because I didn't buy it from them I'm sure. I was told that it was not safe to be on the road which I agree. It has a lot of play in the wheel to the left but feels normal to the right. Kinda strange. But if you get up to 35 mph you better hang on bc it gets a mind of its on.

I will check out that thread. Appreciate it.

It doesn't matter where you bought it as they get reimbursed by Chrysler for warranty work. To them they get paid either way so they don't care where it came from. The problem is Chrysler can't afford to do warranty work at the moment so they're looking for any excuse to deny service. Chrysler's the one giving you trouble and not the dealer.

North Lake... I went and took pic of it a little while ago for my atty. It is on the passenger side like the other guy mentioned but mine looked like the weld came loose at the bracket. They have been really slack there. They haven't fixed anything i've complained about. I've only taken it in twice. They ordered a part last March that has still not come in... had to deal with that braking recall. Then several minor things. It's sitting on the lot right now and they haven't fixed one thing on it. Not even the oil change. They've had it 8 days now.

I've already talked to my "lemon law" atty. We're just gonna let it sit. That 30 day clock is ticking away. The burden is on them at the moment anyway. There is no way my tires and driving habits did that... If so, Jeeps shouldn't be qualified to go over curbs. I agree with the other guy about Chrysler not having the money to spend on any repairs.

Have you had better luck with one or the other Jeep dealerships? I know several people who have had warranty work done at North Lake for entire rear ends and such with larger lifts and when it was obvious how they broke them. It's just crazy. It's really not driveable though. I did drive it up there but it wasn't exactly a pleasant drive. It was ok until you hit about 30-35 mph.

This is quite amazing, isn't it? A car company unable to repair vehicles because they're broke? Unbelievable.

I have taken my Jeep to them a couple times, around 6-7 times for leaks. They were never able to fix it, I finally took matters into my own hands and fixed it. There was one guy named Jeffery, that was actually cool through the whole debacle. Recently since it has been raining, he gave me a call and asked how it was, which I was really surprised he did. One thing I was very patient with them through all of it, though they never fixed my problem, which is unlike me, normally I cause a scene for this kind of thing. One thing to get the ball rolling is email/call Chrysler and get a "Chrysler care" file opened. This actually helped me a little bit. This is off topic but where around here did you get your lift done at or did you do it yourself? There does not seem to be crap around here for offroad fabricators.

I really is.... what's sad is how much it will probably end up costing them. The warranty issue is a little blurred but the law is not.

Toyota bends over backwards... or at least the dealership here does. They base their entire worth on dependability. I had an '88 4runner that was 12 years old and over 100k miles. My head gasket went out and Toyota covered it 100% bc there had been a recall on V6 models. The recall was only good for 10 years back and 100k. Mine was 2 years older and had about 10k miles too much and they covered it without blinking an eye. All I had to pay for was a tune up. Now that's service.
