Are fake Rubicons common?

Nothing wrong with that. But, this isn't really about built Jeeps--which rarely get as much money in the second-hand market as stockers. This is more about "Rubicons" being sold as Rubicons. I've even seen a Sahara that had been re-badged. It's so obvious--painted fenders and steps, for crying out loud, much less the missing real Rubi enhancements that are more difficult to notice--tires, shocks, wheels, transfer case, lockers, sway bar disco, possibly the gearing, D44 axles, different spline count, etc. Regardless, I wouldn't trade my built X for a Rubi any day of the week-year-decade. No stock Rubi can touch it, not any more. But, a Rubi (or "Rubi") is still worth more to the used car dealer.

Used car dealers in michigan pull that shit all the time... It's kinda sad and they ask the same for the sport with stickers as they do the real thing

I took my friend to a Toyota dealership since he was trading in a 2005 Tacoma for a FJ and they had a JK on the lot with Rubicon stickers and the Rubicon wheels and tires but it did not have the buttons for the lockers and sway bar disconnect. The guy working at the dealership told us not all Rubicons had lockers and sway bar disconnects. I'm pretty sure he had no idea what he was talking about but he seemed pretty convinced the rubicon package was just and appearance package like the Z71 package on Chevys.

I don't understand why people do it.
I have a Sahara...
I pulled off my Sahara sticker on the side, pulled off my bumper cover, and promply put a Rubi-style "SAHARA" sticker on the side of my hood.
I worked and paid for my Wrangler...I'm proud of it.
I don't really off-road, so I don't need a Rubicon......thus I have no Rubicon envy.
And that Toyota dealer needs to be slapped.
