On the Fence: The best one to be on- unlimited or classic
Hello all, I find myself split on going with the two door or the four. As a result, I came to people who are best qualified to help out. YOU GUYS!
A little explanation- I grew up with my dads 93' yj softop. (i was was born in 94') I love the thing to death. I want to keep it as my own and lift it but its his rig and not mine. so Im looking into a new one. I love how i can stick my left arm over the half doors and touch the rear tire and go cart like feel. i felt remorse for friends who had to sit in the back though. but on the new jk two door its not a problem. the only problem i see is cargo capacity with the rear seats being used, theres next to none. Its not very practical, no two door is really.... so you say if cargo is your need get the unlimited!
right. Im sure this is something you have all thought long and hard about, and the golden question i ask all of you- Does your jeep having two feet added to the wheelbase detract from that classic jeep feel, whatever it may be? has anyone had similar feelings and regretted going the unlimited route? please let me know, I would love feedback.

Ithankyou, PerryAustin

No regrets here, the extra room is the only reason I was able to get a jku as a dd with kids a two door just wasn't enough room. I hauled a 283ci engine for my dads '57 chevy last week in it and it did great. Could never do that in a 2 door with 3 people.
This one is going to go everywhere for sure. For me, the only way I could get a Jeep at all was a 4 door with having 5 kids (we had a 3rd row seat installed). But even if it weren't for that reason its a personal preference. We live at the beach with lots of night life. We like going out with friends at night with the top off. With our friends its so easy and quick to get in and out with the rear doors obviously and not raising seats for people getting in and out. At this point, even when the day comes I don't "have" to have one for kids, I'll still have a 4 door. I personally prefer the look of the longer wheelbase.
Love my 10 2door. A lot of the guys I work with have 4doors and the space is much nicer for work gear we carry. I'm planning on paying mine off this year then getting a small car for a DD. Then I'm making my jk an offroad toy. I'm a young professional with no kids so it works out great. My advise is if your going to keep it long term and not make it a DD it's whole life then get the 2door. If you see yourself as a one car guy or having more than 1 kid before paying off the jeep then get a 4door.
I raised two kids in SWB Jeeps. Very rarely was I ever overwhelmed by needing more space.
I didn't need a minivan and kid seats in the back of the Jeeps was a non-issue for me.
I see people sell their soul for minivans too many times. The JKU helped level the playing field for many.
I have had a JKU for the last few years and while I like the space, I miss the SWB Jeep. My purchase was never for that reason, but I wanted to try a longer wheel base on the trails. Both the kids rarely ride with me anyway as one is driving and the other is about too. I have a SWB 13' being delivered in about a week.

Well its up to you what you need. Only you know what your pleasure is going to be. If your single I would go with 2dr much easier and less work, doors and top. I wouldn't worry about your friends in the back, they are just fine. The purpose of the 2dr is to keep your girl close to you not to have a party going on in the back. I you have kids then maybe 4dr for the extra room. The 2drs are more of a toy just you and your girl or a buddy or a couple of friends take everything off jump in and go play. And it goes quick taking the windows and doors off, putting the top down when doing it yourself and you're going to be. Buying the 4dr thinking of your friends will just give you more effort, more doors to remove, longer top to put down. Do the extra work for your family not friends.

Two door with a trailer (whether an expensive off-road one, or a simple used utility trailer) for that occasional need to carry more 'stuff'.
Four door if you have infants. After they're old enough to get in and out on their own, the two door works fine until leg room becomes an issue.
I test drove a 2dr and 4dr back to back and that was it for me. I figured I'm packing like a girl (no offense meant to the ladies) if I can't get everything I need in a 2dr.
Good luck

I just set up my order for a 4 door for two main reasons.
#1 - Mostly because I could not do stuff like take my new wife and her parents or my mother and grandmother out to lunch/dinner in a 2 door.
#2 - Because have a portable keg that won't fit in the back of a 2-door. But I can put it in the back of a 4 door and take three friends with me.
