Default Fiat buying into Chrysler?

I just turned on CNN and heard a little blurb announcing that Fiat is looking into buying 35% of Chrysler. Apparently there will be no cash lifeline for Chrysler in this, but Fiat will be paying to retool some Chrysler plants to produce Fiats.

Note the wording though.

Fiat appears to be paying $0 for the 35% stake.

Awesome - I can't wait for a turbo 4-cylinder Wrangler with 5" of ground clearance.

I doubt they would get involved with the Jeep line at all.

From what i'm reading it sounds like chrysler is offering a stake in return for the tools, parts, licence to produce fiat's. Here we go again with the re-branding crap. It makes sense to me though, chrysler does need to tap into the smaller car market right now and hopefully together these two get real innovative and produce something cool. http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/new...entid=16970162.

I think it is a great idea, I had a Fiat x1/9 way back when and it was one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Besides I would rather be associated with the german or italian cars than the french like renault who is partnered with nissan.
