Default Fiat/Chrysler honoring warranties?

So chrysler is now owned by Fiat? I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I must suck at searching.

I have a 08 JK and I purchased the extended warranty to cover the whole vehicle for as long as I own it. So, is it still gonna be honored now that Fiat is in charge?

Check with your dealership for the exact answer, but from the looks of it, it's the U.S. gov't. who'll be honoring the warranty for at least the first several years of the changeover.

No, Fiat does not "own" Chrysler. They are a financial partner. Majority shareholders are actually the UAW and good ole Uncle Sam.

That said, warranty issues should not be handled any differently than they were prior to bankruptcy. That is of course if they can get the production lines for parts back up and running so they actually have some new parts to replace broken ones

I haven't followed the status of Chrysler lately so pardon my ignorance, but what about dealerships that were dropped by Chrysler as a part of the bankruptcy agreement? I assume those dealerships will not perform warranty work, correct?

Yup, my understanding there is that they lost the franchise. I could be wrong though.

I do know that the dealers in my area that were Chrysler dealers, either closed entirely or are operating under a new name that doesn't include Chrysler in it and they're not selling Chrysler products.

I received a letter from Chrysler yesterday...I quote

"Rest assured that there will not be a moment's interruption in our work to meet the needs of all our customers. The new company will seamlessly honor all warranty claims and service contracts."

I know many are closing, which means obviously you will need to find a new dealer. The place I bought my JK from is one of the dealers that lost it's franchise, but I got a letter in the mail saying that their service department will remain open. The question I have is if I take my JK to them will they still be able to perform free warranty work? If they think I am going to take my JK there and then pay for it then they are crazy.

From what I've read, any franchise that got the Ziggy will also have lost ability to process Warranty work.

When I bought mine the ins. company offered me an extended warrentee for seven dollars a month. I have it on all my cars. The only problem is it doesn't kick in until the factory warrentee is over. I called them. They said if Chrysler isn't honoring the warrentee on the jeep they will. They even put it in writing.

Your warranty will be honored. However it will be 10x more of a painful and slow process with the Gov't. involved.

The Fiat aspect of it is practically irrelevant.
