Default The final verdict on hood locks?

Does anyone have any new updated information on Hood Locks? I have done the search and read everything posted but it seems to be mixed feelings about the Mopar Hood Lock and Rugged Ridge. I can’t be the only one worried about someone lifting up the hood and stealing or tampering. Why doesn’t the alarm activate when the hood is opened? Can it be wired so that happens? Any advise or ideas?

maybe he has neighbors that like to put metal shavings into his oil filler tube??? Jeez, I'm getting myself all paranoid now!

I think if you want basic protection, you should be okay with the mopar lock. It's not going to be a safe, but It'll give you some protection.

I think somebody here wired up a remote hood lock, with a release located in the cabin (like normal vehicles). I may have been dreaming though.

Also, I'm sure you could easily rig up a cheap alarm alternative with a pressure switch directly connected to a siren. You'd have to rig something up to shut it off when you're working on it, though.

I am concerned with someone stealing the vehicle also. I could be wrong, but can't someone just open the hood and disconnect the alarm system?

I had thought about the hood alarm thing too...but in the end, who really goes through there unless you have a pissed off girlfriend who'd be evil enough. Maybe put sugar in your gas tank. Funny, I have the locking gas cap but have yet to put it on.

Easiest fix: don't piss off your girlfriend

(I don't think my girlfriend would know to put sugar in the gastank, or shavings in the oil.... So I guess I have a winner? )

Funny I've had two batteries stolen out of my jeeps in the past so yes I have a cable lock on my hood. Pain in the a$$ to crawl under when I want to open the hood. But better than trying to start the jeep with no battery

A couple of years ago when I lived in the city I had someone steal the master cylinder (brakes) out of my Ford Pickup . Sure freaked me out when I backed out of my parking stall and had no brakes. They just cut the brake lines and unbolted it from the firewall. I ive in the country now and no worries about stealing now.

Default stolen battery

I had a battery stolen once. It sucks trying to start a vehicle with no battery.

The Mopar lock is not so great. It looks good and works well with the key that was used to "code" the lock (said key was the only key I received when I bought my used 2007 Wrangler). The lock does not work with my other key which is a replacement key that the dealer cut. My dealer said they had DC send out 2 other hood locks to see if they could get them to work properly and those didn't work either. I'm getting reimbursed for what I paid for labor and now I'll have to get a credit from the online company where I purchased the hood lock.
