First Negative Experience On The Forum
Just wanted to share the wonderful experience I just had on these forums (I’m being sarcastic). First off, I am fairly new to the forums as I just picked up my ’11 JK backed in November. So far my experience on here has been pretty good, picking up ideas from fellow members and researching a bunch of stuff for the truck. Previously, I owned a 07 STI (Subaru) and was on a few of those forums for the past 5/6 years, so I have a good idea of proper etiquette on the forums.
So last month I had some one rear end my new Jeep and bang up the rear bumper, tailgate and tire carrier. No big deal, but I figured if anyone on here had some of these parts on here that they were looking to get rid of it could benefit both of us. That being said I came across a guy in Florida who was looking to get rid of his spare tire carrier. He seemed like a cool dude and even said I’ll give it to you for the cost of shipping ($35).
Here’s the sequence of events:
5/10 – PM’d seller and said I’ll take it for $35. He told me he’s in GA for the weekend and it will be a few days to get it out. I told him send me your paypal and I’ll submit the payment
5/13 – Seller gave me his paypal. Stated he could ship it out tomorrow or Tuesday
5/14 – Paypal sent
5/14 – Seller said he received payment and he’ll send it out Thursday morning. (not a big deal to me)
5/21 – PM from seller “hey sorry I just noticed that my inbox was full when you just tried to PM me, your item was shipped out Saturday. I left for work that morning and had the GF drop it off for me...as soon as I see her later I’ll get you a tracking number”
** No response from seller in between dates
5/24 – Pm’d seller asking for tracking number
** Again no response
5/31 – two and a half weeks – no package, no response or tracking number… Guess it’s time to dispute the payment.
(7:43 AM) PM’d seller and let him know that I’m disputing the sale.
(7:57 AM) Got this response from the seller:
“I'm just gonna refund your money...my gf lost the tracking number and I have no idea where the tire carrier is...and to be perfectly honest I could care less but it shows up at your house you can just return it to the sender and I'll put it back in the garage.
And I've responded to every one of your PM and I have proof of that. I don't get on here everyday, maybe once a week and if I get an email that someone sent me a PM
I'll refund your money”
(8:17 AM) responded back saying not trying to be a d*ck or anything but its been 2 ½ weeks and no package or tracking number. What would any buyer think if they haven’t received anything in that time span?
6/5 – another PM from the seller:
“Refund was issued the same day you PM me but because you started a dispute through paypal the money is now being held until the dispute is cleared...that's out of my hands
I've been out of two since last Tuesday for work so I have no idea where the tire carrier is or if it even got shipped to the right address. I'm flying home tonight and I'll get to the bottom of everything.”
6/7 – my response:
“Okay sounds good. Let me know what you find out. Like I said I have no problem paying you the money if you have it and ship it back out (with a tracking number this time). Keep me posted.”
I’m a pretty understandable guy… if there was an issue I have no problem if we can still work something out to make us both happy.
6/7 (7:08 PM) – PM from seller:
“Got home this morning and had a note from ups about package, picked up at shipping station and had written on there return to sender written black marker.”
6/8 – 6/12:
I go back a forth with the seller giving him the options of either: resending the tire carrier (with a tracking number this time) or just refunding my money.
Now here’s my mistake in the process… I dropped the paypal dispute bc I’m a nice guy and figured he would man up and just refund the money (since after all it was his mistake shipping the item out.
Received the following response:
“Its not worth me to re-ship the item, I already lost the $28 I paid for shipping because it was returned to sender plus I had to refund the money to you do I'm out. I was only selling it to cover the shipping cost and could care less about making money on it. I'm probably just gonna toss it in the trash cause I don't have the room for all my extra jeep stuff.
I sent the conformation email I received from paypal to your email at ********@yahoo.com”
Now, at this point I really don’t care about getting the item anymore… just refund my money and I’ll be on my way.
Seller now tells me he submitted the refund and to check with paypal. Okay, so I call paypal and they inform me that since I dropped the dispute that the refund is voided and the money goes to the seller.
Okay, so now I am still going to be level headed and just inform him that he needs to resubmit the refund bc of the dropped dispute. I PM him and ask him to please double check the refund.
I get the following PM:
“Well that's on PayPal, the money was removed from my account by paypal. I guess your gonna have to wait and see what they do.”
Sorry for the lengthy post but I’m just annoyed that this happened and I did nothing to warrant it. I took the high road and asked simple things of the seller but got nothing in return. Am I wrong here? I paid in a timely manner, asked for a tracking number and asked the seller to work with me on the issues. I know that people don’t get on the forum everyday but when you buy or sell an item, logic would tell you to check your messages on a daily basis.
I know people make mistakes… maybe the seller wrote the wrong address or did something for it not to get to me. Understood. But be responsible enough to correct your mistake or at the very least ensure the money is refunded.
I spoke to paypal and they confirmed (without a doubt) that there was no refund submitted. I am now fighting with paypal bc the seller wont refund the money and I am being told that a closed dispute cannot be reopened. I know that $35 isn’t a lot of money buts it’s the principle of the matter and I want everyone to be aware of this seller and PayPal’s policies.
By the way the seller is JRFire1317. Just be aware if you try and deal with him.
Just an FYI: I asked the seller to double check the refund on 6/12 and still haven’t received any response from him.

I'm sorry you had trouble. It happens though. I went through a very similar problem on Ebay about one year ago and did the same thing you did. I lost about $15 and wrote it off as a lesson NEVER CLOSE A DISPUTE UNTIL YOUHAVE YOUR MONEY.
Thanks for the response.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hopefully you get it resolved...maybe this post will help.
Too bad you weren't on the left coast, I have a bumper and tire carrier that I just pulled off sitting in my garage.

Ah, Paypal disputes. Had something similar to this last month.
I was selling my 72 Nova project car and a guy called me with a offer that was a little lower than I wanted. He came up a bit to where I was happy and said he'd send me a non-refundable down payment so I can hold it for like a week since he lived about 80 miles away. I get the $200 deposit from him that same eveing and the next day he sends a few texts asking about what trim and other items I had. I told him what the ad said, "some misc trim, not all of it." Then he wanted his $200 back saying that I lied to him. I already arrenged my schedule for him to get it and we agreed it was non-refunable, so I polietly told him I would not refund him. So he opens a case saying he bought an item that was not as descibed. I then write my statemnt (BTW: his looked like a 7 year-old wrote it) and gave paypal my documents to support my story. They then happily closed the case in my favor, so I kept the $200.
A few weeks later, (about a week ago now) he opens another case through Visa (again being presented to me via Paypal) saying he did not recive an item he paid for. However, he never bought the car. Of course, he wants a $200 "refund" for a car he never bought and that I sold to someone else weeks ago. I cannot wait for this to be over. I need to see if once this case closes and if I win, if I can block him from future attemps. I'm beginning to feel harassed and now I have a -$200 Paypal balance so I cannot buy anything through Paypal prior to paying it off until the case is closed.
Sorry if I ranted. Just wanted to let you know, you're not alone.
