Default Fixed front mud flaps: WTF??

Saw these on Congress Ave in Austin today. Even weirder: they were on the front but NOT the rear.

Call me crazy, but I have the same setup for winter. I take them off when I hit the trails and in the summer. Pretty easy, just a couple of screws. Keeps the sides of the jeep, especially the hinges, from taking a beating from all of the sand and gravel they lay down in the winter, well up here in Edmonton anyway.

I understand that, but this is Texas. No sand, no gravel, no road salt.

May be the person is a first time 4x4 owner?

I had a buddy who was really into rally racing and had them on behind each wheel on his Subaru.

Maybe he lives on a dirt road or long dirt driveway that kicks up rocks and crap from the front wheels only? Kinda hard to Judge someone's rig without knowing all the facts. Not like he is rolling on 22" dubs.

I have the exact same setup on my Jeep. They are fixed, but they are flexible plastic/rubber - they aren't going to get bound up like a solid piece of plastic. The ones on the front keep the mud from flinging up on the side of the Jeep nonstop.

And "lame" as it may be - when I put mine on I was driving 50 miles a day over roads that most Wranglers are never even going to see once in their lifespan. If you are going to ride pavement nonstop - no need for mudflaps. You gonna trailer your rig to a spot, drive 5 miles roundtrip and then latch it back up for its trip to the carwash and garage - no need for mudflaps. If you need your Jeep to drive over the roads it was made for - you are going to get tired of 1) cleaning the mud off of your rig every damn day and 2) comments from posers that are more concerned about how closely their Jeep resembles the latest quadratec catolog than how functional it is.

I also have a small set of flaps on the front only. After removing my sidesteps and installing some sliders, the sides of the Jeep doors would get covered in mud everytime I washed her. So I picked up a set at the auto parts store. They don't look anything like these, and mount more inside the fender. When I get the time I'll update with a image.
