Default floor jack suggestions

I am looking for suggestions for a floor jack and jack stands.
I'm figuring a 2 1/2 ton would be adequate. and I have looked at several at Sears online. No need for a pro grade.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

honestly, you might just want to go down to harbor freight or check your local kragen/checkers for specials that they always seem to have. of couse, the higher it can go, the better. i typically try to get one that can go at least 21" and has the release valve built into the handle (i.e. just twist and it goes down).

Unless you're going to use the jack frequently I'd just get a H.F. jack when they come on sale. I've got a cheap one that I got at Sams Club 20 years ago that looks just like the one they sell at H.F. and it still goes up and down like the day I got it.

I have the harbor freight one as well and it works great. My dad is a rural letter carrier and uses his HF floor jack quite a few times a week. In the past 15 years he has gone through two of em, but for the money they are hard to beat.

I have a HF one too, works well and has given good service. The biggest thing to watch for is the lift height. Don't get one of those 14-16 inch ones, if you have tires the size of Rubi's, they don't get the tire off the ground at full lift. Get one with 19 or 20 inches of lift, you'll be glad. A nice feature of the HF one I have is that the jack handle is also the release to lower the jack, just turn the jack handle and down comes the vehicle, and the jack handle is long so you can reach under the Jeep to the axle and jack without having to go under the Jeep.

Get the sears one,, or one from a good auto parts shop(not pep boys type).. I have used the HF ones and they are pure junk,, the sears ones are way way better,, last longer and if you ever use one were the failure can cost you body parts(fingers, hands feet, life) these are not things to fool with.. The HF ones are not that much cheaper.. And having seen a cheap floor jack fail while jacking up, the truck going sideways and almost crushing a co-worker I will never think of using a cheapo jack.. just too much at stake if it fails.. its cheap ins.. if you pay 30k on a truck why save 20 bucks on a jack to jack it up..

Ditto, that's why I got a Craftsman, Everything craftsman that I have has lasted, makes up 95% of the tools I have. Plus my jack handle is about 5 ft long.

I just recently found a nice 3-ton Craftsman at sears on sell for around $60. It has close to a 20" lift on it. When I measured the height of the bottom of the rear axle on my Ruby; it was 14" off the ground, so make sure you get a jack that has a lift at least a 3 to 5 inches higher than that.
