Question Fwd JK?

I drive a 2wd Jeep and was wondering after watching WOL's video, would my Jeep be a better 2wd if it were fwd? also how would it affect gas mileage?

My personal opinions about a 2WD Wrangler aside, I think FWD or RWD makes no difference on the fuel mileage. Front Wheel Drive helps with traction since the front end carries the weight of the engine and other components, and in inclement weather, it can prove helpful by retaining more traction than a comparable RWD vehicle would. Will it be a better 2WD? Depends on the situation you are driving in - on the trails, I don't think it'd make any difference depending on the terrain because without having 4WD, it's just a matter of time before the limitations of a 2WD vehicle becomes apparent. On the open road, and normal commuting, sure FWD could make it a better vehicle and not have much torque steer, etc.

If you want to wheel it, your best bet would be to get a locker in the rear and stick a wench on the front. I fail to see the reason of getting a 2wd if your gonna wheel, but if thats what you got and wanna wheel it, make the best of it by making the additions mentioned.

I don't know. I've owned one front wheel drive car in my life and couldn't wait to get rid of it. I didn't like the feel of accelerating on a turn. It didn't have any better traction going uphill in snow. I think it's just a marketing ploy as they are cheaper to make.

Understood, and honestly I figured as much. Being as most 2wd owners on here seem to be young and parents have helped them with the purchase. And to give abit of advice, enjoy what you have, run topless, doorless, etc. If you mod it, stick to the more affordable lil extras like seat covers, maybe add some wheel spacers to improve the stance, grab handles, etc. Easy stuff to remove if you want to upgrade to a 4wd in the future. Take very good care of it until you trade it in for something else. If you don't have the mechanical knowledge or funds to make a 4wd in the future, this is the route I'd go. Anyway good luck with it and enjoy it.

If it were me, I would do like mkjeep suggested and lock the rear. You will be amazed at the places it will take you. Build it like a prerunner. Baja type machine. My buddy has a Nissan Frontier NISMO 2wd with a locked rear....he takes that thing everywhere. Sometimes has to take different lines but he gets there.

But like physics tells me a fwd would be better for rocks and mud because on the rocks there is something pulling you over the rocks but with 2wd it pushes you into them and in the mud you can keep traction better cause you can turn the wheels

I disagree.....a fwd would get better traction off road the same way it does on, because of the added weight up front above the tires....
