800 is a good price. I have heard anywhere from $1000-1200.

I am about to get 5.13s. It will cost 275 labor each axel. I supply gears. I am going to get the gears with install kit from northridge for 600. So total cost 1150.

I was just quoted $1400 including the gears/hardware at a local shop. Probably going to hold off for a while but thought that wasn't too bad.

Hmmmm... Quadratec prices for 5.13 gears: $230 front (Dana 30 or 44), $230 rear, Overhaul kit: $220 rear, either $83 (Dana 30) or $200 (Dana 44) front. That $763 in parts alone for the Dana 30, or $880 for the Dana 44s! That doesn't include oil or labor!! Where in the heck did you get your gears for $800??? Is that for the gears, overhaul kit, and installation???

Most places I've seen has been $1100 to $1500. Mine were $1300, and that included the 500 mile "see how well the gears mesh" checkup!

I suppose if you are a really savvy shopper and got the gears cheap,

OR

installed them yourself,

OR

skipped the overhaul kit,

$800 is reasonable.

He asked how much to install, thats why I said $800. I paid $1400 for install, gears, the kit, fluid and gaskets.

Point taken. Most of these threads are rather generic on "install". I guess I would have been less confused if the OP said "...how much it should cost for labor for a competent shop to install gears..."

Now if smbundy13 could clarify - does "install" simply mean labor (i.e. you'll supply the parts) or are you asking what it takes for the whole enchilada?
