going to Canada...
...don't offend a leftie! We had a family reunion at some cabins near Vancouver, and one of the kids must have dropped a candy bar wrapper on the ground. We found it pinned to our door with an attached note: "Why don't you just destroy the planet!!!"
Montréal is very nice. There are tons of restaurants worth visiting. I highly recommend stopping at Schwartz.. excellent, excellent food. Lot's of outdoor and sidewalk restaurants and coffee shops worth visiting as well. There are tons of bars and clubs also if you're into that sort of thing.
Make sure to visit Old Quebec City if you're planning on visiting. Very European indeed. Mont-Morency falls is beautiful.
You may run into some ignorant folks.. don't let it taint your views on Canada as a whole. Quebec tends to be a little different than the rest of the provinces.

I lived in Western Canada for a couple decades. Great place to be; great place to visit.
Just so there won't be any surprises at the border or at the airport. Check this site for information about visiting:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp
Also check this site for what and what not to carry:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publicati...f5056-eng.html
Last time I visited Quebec most folks spoke only French, or at least preferred to speak French. It is good to respect their preference and not automatically assume they should speak English to you.
Ditto the visit to Quebec City if you have time. Incredible history there. One of the oldest European settlements in North America.
Be sure to catch some Canadian TV and Radio. Very cool to actually hear what was said during the news interviews instead of a bunch of bleep-outs like our blue laws require here.

Keep in mind we're talking litres. Plus, 95% of our vehicles aren't getting the common 50-100mpg that's seen in most european cars. I guess that makes up for the prices.
Returning to topic..
Quebec as a whole is an incredibly beautiful place to visit. There is lots to do, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Just keep an open mind as I'm sure things are different then what you're used to. Make an effort and you'll have a great time!

IN Montreal you should not have to much problem with the language, more you're going toward Quebec City the more french only speaking you will see.
As stated try a "poutine", but I have to warn you Montreal is not the best place for it, there is also the "plure" which I enjoy a lot.
If you like Jazz try the Modavie in the old Montreal ht tp://www.modavie.com/en/
P.S gas is now at 1.40 / L
