Default Goo on my diff plug!!!!!

I dont know if theres a thread on this yet but I decided to change out my gear oil to mobil 1 tonight and when I pulled the front and rear plugs there was a goo build up the size of the damn plug whats up with that does anybody know why, was it cheap gear oil before

The goo is the metal flakes that naturally wear off your gears and are attracted to the magnetic plug. If you didn't have goo, there would be a problem.

I wish I would of took a pic but it wasnt metal flakes it was thick kind of like play-doe

Jack is right... Its fine metal particulates that are attracted to the magnet. They are suspended in the oil and kinda "coagulate" and form a gooey putty like consistency.

they are right its metal shavings, the smaller the better.

what color was the oil when you opened your diff? was it dark or dirty milky looking?

Wow learn something new everyday, and the oil was dark it def needed to be changed thanks for the feedback guys I just never seen that before

Nothing wrong with a little goo on your plug, good hygiene dictates you wipe it off though.

little goo on the plug is good, LOTS of goo = BAD.
