Got a Snorkel crazy Idea... is it possible?
I have a silly question. Please Please don't kill me! LOL
Snorkel is a great device, one of the best devices for off-Roading,
but look awful on the Jeep... (like an elephant trunk LOL)
Is there any way to have the Jeep getting air for the engine through the cab instead?
Lets say, run a pip all the way to a hole in the cub where the vents are (eliminate one vent for example)
The way I see it is:
1. it will look good outside (no elephant trunk).
2. no matter how deep you go, the cub is usually the last one to drown, especially the vent area as it's reasonable high
3. Snorkel will be protected from the elements: branch, rain, snow flying rocks, you name it.
4. no risk on hydraulic your engine on unexpected sudden change in angles in mud...
*see pic.
Please educate me if my Idea is not practical, I ain't a mechanic
The pic for example, GOD I love that pic... LOL :

Ir's possible, however, while not as loud as the exhaust, the intake is noisy. You would also create negative pressure in the cab and choke out your engine unless you drove around with a window open in all seasons. Lastly, while I have never smelled the intake, as usually air is flowing in, I would not be surprised to learn that with the engine off or at idle that odors and gases could not find their way out through the intake.

However, a lot of snorkels don't have to be on all the time and many of them can be taken off so you aren't driving around with the elephant trunk most of the time.

Yes you can do that but it will be loud as fuck and you'll regret it.
There's a few CJs and YJs down here on like 46" tractor tires who do that.
and if your worried about how ugly a snorkel is, you probably don't need one anyways.

Snorkel in the cab has been done.. however.. loud. Its not something you'd want on a Jeep you drive every day. If you want a snorkel but don't want one That's a huge eyesore on your Jeep.. check out dirtmans snorkel he designed. He has the write up on here. It raises your intake about a foot and doesn't stick out too bad.

This is my friend's snorkel that we did on his 2010, it had less than 3k miles when we put in the first cuts. It is a similar design (aesthetically) to Dirtman's but you can put whatever filter you like on there and of you decide to hit some ridiculously deep water (like I do) then you can always add an extension and raise the filter as high as you like.
WOW! NICE!!!
