Default Happy Veterans Day

As an active duty member serving in the United States Coast Guard, I just want to say thank you to all the veterans and active duty personnel that have served their country and presently serving, it is your dedication, devotion and sacrifices that make the lives of many in this country so simple. Having our freedom is a privilege, and should NEVER be taken for granted. So while your driving your sweet looking JK around today, remember all those that have made just that possible.

Amen to that. In a country that is increasingly forgetting where it came from and what made it great, its important to observe/remember what holidays like this one mean....AND teach our children what they mean.

From this retired veteran and a father of an active duty soldier, I too wish my fellow warriors a Happy Veterans day. Thank you for you your unselfish service and sacrifices you made to this country.
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life

Thanks to all of you who have served. I just want to share this, which is part of something I wrote on my FB wall this morning ...

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

― William Shakespeare, Henry V
This evening I will be with the Boy Scouts in my area, as I have been for the past 15 or so years, to honor our veterans at a flag retirement. This is our 20th annual, and we figure we've retired close to 20,000 flags at them.

My youngest son and his scoutmaster salute the flags as Taps is played at the ceremony in 2005.
