Default Hardtop or Soft top???

I have a soft top as of now, but LOVE the way the hard tops look. Is it worth it to spend the extra $1500 on the top for my 2010 unlimited x or should I just stick with the soft top? I don't know what to do!!

My two cents would be stick with the soft top, I love mine. This is also assuming it dosn't get too cold in the winter in Alabama

Hardtop is great
You can leave valuables in there with out worrying if they get stolen.

Also, the Freedom Top is perfect, the guy who invented them definitely had a Jeep. They give you the feel of the top completely off and they're so simple to remove and put back on.
The softops can be a pain to put back on and off.

but however, i prefer the look of the soft top, just because it gives it more of the Jeep look (at least to me it does)

I think having a hard top and a soft top is a must for all JK's

I have both, but I live in the North East (winter/snow).

If I lived in a warm climate it would be hard to justify the cost.

That $$$ could go to other mods.

Unless you have security needs, the Sunrider soft top is more than enough IMO.

Default hardtop

thanks you guys. I'm just still not sure what to do because I would love to buy some subs sometime soon but there is absolutely NO way I'm doing it unless I have a hardtop just because I dont want to get robbed... haha. It gets a little cold in Alabama, around the 30s F. But its not too bad. I just LOVE the way they look a lot more than the soft top unless I had the soft top that forms to the back of the roll cage. That one is pretty sick... Im so confused!!!

Where at in Alabama are you?

I have subs in mine with soft top. If they're going to steal your subs they'll do it regardless of your top. Had my window busted out of a car years ago and system stolen.

Let me start by saying I love my soft top in the summer. We get so many pop up showers its nice to be able to throw the top back up since I like to ride without top and doors as much as possible. It's surprising how much the top blocks rain even without doors on.

That being said, I would love to have a hard top for the winter months. they are much quieter, and as you said they look great. Only problem is storing it when it's off. I'm thinking I'll eventually purchase a hard top as well, but I'll definitely only run it during the winter.

I love my hard top , but sometimes I envy not being able to throw the top down whenever I wish

wait it out and look for one on ebay or the forums, eventually they get cheaper and easier to buy

I say get the hard top if you like them so much. I have both tops, soft for summer and hard for winter.

Keep in mind, if you didn't buy your JK with the hard top option, then it probably isn't setup for the (soccer mom/dad) rear wiper / defroster. You can purchase the stuff to have those work, and then take it to a Jeep dealer and pay to have them reprogram for them.

For myself, I didn't care, so I just saved the money for other things.

Only way my wife would let me get a JK was with the HardTop. It really cuts down on the noise, and it NEVER leaks. I'm in So Cal, so I have the Freedom Top panels off most of the time, it's great.

I'd say, go for the Hard Top too! You'll then have the Dual Tops, in the event you ever Trade/Sell your Jeep in the future. It'll fetch a better Sale Price for you.

Also, consider this. With the Soft Top, you have the options of Full Up Top, Sunrider, Windows Out as a Safari Top, Top Down, & Top Off. With the Hard Top, you have the options of Full On Top, Freedom Panels Off for Sunrider, Top Off, and Freedom Panels on as a Bikini Top. Lotsa variations with just two Tops!

Looks like you're a Doors-Off Jeeper! So, Doors-Off with Soft Top for the Spring, Summer, & Fall months, and Full Doors with Hard Top for the Winter.

JEEP! Ya just can't beat it with a stick!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!
