I am buying 2 stand up paddle boards and am not sure how I am going to haul them in/on my 2 door JK, soft top. Can I just take the top down and strap the boards to the existing bars? Or do I need to buy a rack? I'd prefer to just strap them to the existing bars, but I'm not sure they can handle the load and I don't want to f anything up.

I've seen some people talk about a "soft rack" but I'm not sure if that's a solution for a wrangler.

Any help or guidance is definitely appreciated!

If it's just an occasional thing, just strap them down. A rack is a better albeit more expensive solution. I picked up a trailer to haul my kayaks because my jeeps grown too big to keep loading them on top.

You don't think the paddle boards will be too heavy without a rack? About 35 pounds each.

My kayaks are. 50-60 lbs each. I'd post a pic but the site won't let me. I carried mine and my wife's on top from Myrtle Beach to Nagshead and back in September.

You might want to put something under the boards where they rest on the windshield frame. The rubber seal can get damaged if the boards move around at all.

Soft Racks still require a hard top to connect to or strap under. I can't stand them.

I'd just strap them down to your roll bar and windshield. Just put a towel down. That's what I do with my longboard when I have the top off.
