Hey all, I am new to the forum here but I wanted to bring to light that my brand new 2013 jku rubi I took receipt of on Sept 4th has begun to produce blue smoke when started cold and has sat for 6 hours or more. Ofiicially have 9400 miles on it, serviced 3 times and apparrently has the same valve guide issue on the #2 exhaust valve as others have had this year in AA production runs of the 3.6. By part number I have the first engine build revision(AB). There really isnt any other way for that oil to get into the cylinder than through the guides. Needless to say, it is going to the dealer on the 7th to be diagnosed. Thought I would share my disappointment with what I thought was a promising engine. Be weary and check the tail pipe when started cold after sitting all night.
Also my gas milage has been tanking over the last month (14-15mpg) from the 20 I was getting.
I'm waiting for my oil sample to come back from Wagner I took yesterday to see if there are signs of signifigant wear.


I would like to hear if anyone else is seeing this condition and how jeep has been working (or not) with you.

 

What's the Julian date on your heads?

thats no good, maybe its bad luck. My early 2012 has 27,000 miles and running smooth. (fingers crossed)

 

yup , 3.8 stock just went up again .

 

I'm at 8,000 miles on my Aug 12th built '13. No oil/head issues thus far but I'm keeping an eye on it. I think I have the AA heads, where is the julien date at?

 

It's just below the heads, passenger side about in the middle. It should read like; 2612B which translates to a 261 day build of 2012.

 

I assume there are dates we don't want as well as dates we do? My Jeep was built in November, but haven't checked the heads.

If you mean Nov 12 than yes you are fine. The rest of us play roulette with which bit was on the machine that cut out valve guides.

Just looked at mine, 2162A!! I knew I waited for a 2013 for reason. My block date is 5/21/12 and build date is aug 12th, 2012 if that helps anyone else.
