Default HELP... Using jack & jack stands

Sorry for the dumb question
BUT I just picked up a set of 3 ton Jack stands and a 3 ton Jack.

Question:
Am I suppose to use the 2 stands everytime I use to Jack to lift my JKU? Like use Jack to lift it to a certain height then release Jack to sit on the 2 stands.

I want to change out my 35" tires myself I have a set of 35" Mickey MTZ's on Mickey rims for summer AND have 35" duratracs on steelies for winter.....
Problem is because of my lifted jeep almost 4" the 2 Jack stands at full height sits over an inch below the frame and the tires are still grounded.
So do I return this Jack and 2 stands to get one that lifts higher OR can I change out my heavy 35" tires just using the Jack?
Thanks...... Rob

Jack up the axle to get the tire off of the ground then put the jack stand under the axle for extra support. If you are just changing one tire at a time you would probably be OK just using the jack under the axle. Just chock the wheels, so it doesn't roll.

Ok but my 2 Jack stands don't even touch the frame of the jeep at full extension when all the tires are flat on the ground... Cause of my 4" lift.
So I'm wondering how safe it is using Jack alone or just go out and get a higher lifting Jack and stands.

So your jack and stands are too short to lift up the axle?

To repeat what Robar said...

"Jack up the axle to get the tire off of the ground then put the jack stand under the axle for extra support."

Sorry if I'm missing something here..... But my stands don't even reach any part of my jeep when it's flat on the ground.
So to Jack it up and then let it rest on the stands afterwards..... My 35 " tire won't slide on because my jeep will be lower then it was before.
Sorry am I making sense here??

My stands don't reach..... Wondering if I can use Jack only to change out my 35" tires.... Heavy ones.
I want to be safe doing so for my sake and my jeep

Ok thanks...... But is it safe changing one big tire at a time just using the Jack itself?
