Hey Im new and a have some ?s about the new JKs
Heres my lil story:
Hello everyone. I had a YJ that I sold back in 2001 and out of all my rides I have had I think that is the one I miss most. For the last few years I have been in to Import tuning. I have had Honda's and Acura's and done all kinds of things to them. Spent way to much money on them. I have had a lot of fun with them but it has always been a pissing match about who's faster. I can pass by another Import and they rev up wanting to race. Back when I had my Jeep I would pass another Jeep and guess what? They waved. The good ole Jeep wave. Seems like everyone was nice that had a Jeep. Never really meet anyone with a Jeep that was cocky. Im 35 now and Im tired of all the drama that goes along with Imports so Im going back to what I should of kept. Jeeps.
My qusestion:
Im want to buy a 4 door Wrangler, JK as I just found out, but I dont know what to buy. Looks like there are a lot of options. Guess it would be easyer for me to tell my needs are I guess. This will be my daily driver. There arent a lot of places around here that I would want to go off roading but I would like to head to the Blue Ridge Mountans ( 8 hour drive ) from time to time. I want 4 doors, full door with power windows, and I want it to have a stock MP3 player or XM radio. I was thinking about getting an automatic this time but Im not sure if I should get a 6 speed instead. What Jeep should I get?
This is my first post on here so I hope you all dont mind my babbling. This seems like a nice forum.

I got the Sahara. Biggest reason was wanting the painted fenders. If this doesn't matter to you then you can build up an "X" at a savings, especially if you are looking at getting tire and rim up grades. I ended up putting Rubi tires and rims on mine.

I recommend the Sahara also....comes with most of the things you want standard...automatic or standard is a personal choice....auto for me just for convenience
Welcome.

The way I think about the three options are as follows:
- Rubicon = Best trail machine (in stock form) and a good starting point for building a Jeep you intend to take off-road often, but not neccessarily for doing a radical off-road build-up due to high cost of entry
- Sahara = Best road machine (but still a capable trail machine... it's a Jeep) and a good starting point for someone wanting to build a primarily road machine with occasional off-road use and who wants best ride on-road and the bells and whistles
- Wrangler X = Best blank canvas with fewest options making it the right choice for someone who either has a very clear idea of what kind of machine he/she wants to build (street, trail, rock crawler, etc.) and plans to replace lots of the stock components, or who doesn't have a lot to spend up front and wants to be able to build it out over time to spread out their investment costs

Since you once owned a Jeep YJ, you have a better understanding of your wants or needs. I would make a list. Include one part for must have items, a second for want to have, and a third part for the I don't care items.
Welcome.

This should be stickied. This is the most succinct, perfect way of putting the purpose of each model of Wrangler. Anyway, back to the shadows...

GadgetPhreak: Thats prob. the best way to word it. Couldnt have said it better.
I love my sahara. I wish I could have gotten a rubi.. but it was more $ & since I eventually plan on modding it, its kinda a waste to get a rubicon.
Bottom line - any JK model you get will be great on and off the road (as long as you go w/ 4x4). For added peice of mind, the Rubicon will not only go anywhere, but in stock form be able to get you out of a bad situation that you can easily find yourself in... It sounds like you want some nice creature comforts, so it seems the sahara would be best suited for you, unless you really will benefit from lockers and the bigger front axle. Personally, the only thing I dont like about my sahara is the painted flares (I like to contrast of the unpainted flares matching the soft top color). But my wife liked the painted, so a small price to pay to have her happy with the jeep too.

Even if you don't take it off-roading, please don't lower it or put spinners on. I have seen two lowered jeeps in my life. They still effect me to this day. *shudder*
As far as suggestions, I agree w/ the Sahara suggestions. Makes the most sense.
