Hit and Run Victim
Many people on this site upgrade their bumpers and sell the factory parts for little or nothing.
I recently gave my stock bumper away to a fellow Jeeper and there is at least 1 other listed as FREE in the for sale section as of a couple of days ago.
I would be amazed if you could not take care of you bumper for less than $100 including shipping.

I appreciate the comments. I am not too shooken up about it cause like somone posted earlier it could have been much, much worse. In hind site if i knew the little f'er was going to run i would have squared him up and t-boned his a$$.........
But seriously, the claim has already been processed. I have in writing from my insurance company that my premium will not increase due to this incident. I am not too worried about them as they have always treated me right. I think where i would get screwed is if i would change insurance companies in the next few years. Then the claim would come into play. I guess now i just sit and wait 4 months for my rates to get reissued and see what happens. Was it a good idea to claim it? probably not.....but it is a couple hundred bucks i didn't have before.
As for replacement, I was planning on an aftermarket bumper anyway. so this gives me a good excuse to save up some wad and buy something new (probably Expidition One's JK front). It did do a little damage to the metal bar behind the plastic molding. The Fender Flare is $65 from the Dealership, and i plan on installing it myself. the part that irks me is that it left a small pea size "hail dent" in the metal part of the fender. the plastic crap isn't a big deal to replace, but because of this small dent, i may have to pay $350 to get the fender fixed (if he can't pop it out due to location). I know, it is just a small dent, but it would be different if i put it there while wheelin or something. Plus at 5 months old, i am not ready to start overlooking small sh#t like this.
anyway, it just amazes me how inconsiderate people are. Being from the midwest i don't expect folks to be a$$ holes like that. Be a f'in man and take responsibility for your actions.

I hope it works out. I'm an "Ultra-preferred" rate customer with my insurance company. But, that didn't stop them from increasing my son's liability-only rate for his F150 40% (he's 17, but been through two billing cycles without an increase). And, no, they don't know about his backing into the post. Anyway, I switched to another company. Then I compared the rates for the JK and the Trans Am. Looks like they'll all be switched at renewal time--savings of almost a $1000 a year. "Ultra-preferred" my rear end.
So i had a little bit of a reality check this past weekend. I was Driving home with my wife after picking up some supper. I was westbount on a four lane road in town. i was cruzin at about 35mph up to this intersection in the right lane. As i came within a few feet of the intersection, the Ford Explorer in the left lane decided to make a right turn onto an on ramp. I slammed on the breaks, but still hit the ford in the rear passenger fender area with my driverside front bumper. I was shocked and alittle pissed at first wandering just why this guy wanted to turn right, right in front of me. So i slowed down and pulled over to the side. he slowed a bit, then all the sudden took off like a bat outta hell. Well, my JK isn't really a performance vehicle, but i kicked it in and chased after the guy. he lead me on a chase through many turns and neighborhoods. All the while my wife is on the phone with the police dispatch explaining our situation. We finally got close enough to get a description of the car, and that it was KS plates, but didn't get numbers. We decided to head back to the scene and give a report to the officer who was in route.
the officer said it was 100% his fault. When i called my insurance company i was given quite a shock.......and this is the purpose of this post.
Due to my age, new Jeep, a few traffic violations, all i could afford was insurace with a $1000 deductible. Well turns out, even with a hit and run where it is clearly evedent happend, the insurance company of the guy left behind is responsible for covering. Well in this case they had to file it as a collision, and i have to pay my deductible. Total cost of estimate.......$1168. That means i end up with a check in my hand for a whopping $168.
I had heard horror stories but never thought it would happen to me. Well.. now i am stuck with $1000 worth of damages to fix because of some f'ing dooshbag.
I have since lowered my deductible. So i guess the point of this story is to think twice about lower insurance rates for higher deductibles.....probably come back to bite you in the ass.
