Default How Does the Ordering Procedure Work?

So I'm going in to my local dealership tomorrow to take one of their JKs for a test drive, and potentially to order a 2dr Rubi of my own, but I'm curious (as I've never factory ordered a vehicle before), how does the whole thing go down?

Mostly, what should I be aware of before before heading in to mee the dealer, and what can I expect during the ordering procedure, and at the delivery date? If I have a trade, is that something they evaluate at the time of order, or the time of delivery? What about financing - should I leave the kid at home and plan on spending hours waiting for the finance manager, or can I just cut a check for a deposit and go home?

Sorry 'bout all the "n00b" questions, but I figure if anyone anywhere knows what to look forward to, it'd be here..

Cheers!

Well I just ordered this Monday so I will tell you how mine worked.

1. Haggled with dealer until I got trade price i wanted.
2. Spec'd out the exact Jeep I wanted with the dealer and got MSRP and Invoice sheet.
2. Didn't have to haggle on price of vehicle tho because of available discount through my work. (But you may need to)
3. Got the final #'s written down including tax title, document fees etc. (Haggled document fees some more)
4. Agreed on final price with all my options.
5. Haggled with dealer that I wanted to order from the factory and not get another one off some guys lot that has been test driven a million times.
6. Signed a bill of sale and dropped down $500 bucks.
7. Wait 2-3 months for my Jeep .

Oh, awesome. Thankfully, through my employer, I also have haggle-free pricing.. And the spec-sheet has already been faxed over, so the dealer knows what I'm looking for already. In retrospect, I regret having done that prior to haggling on my trade, but it is what it is.

So, they'll sign off on the trade-in numbers while you're there? Is the trade-in price at time of ordering essentially guaranteed (within reason, obviously) at the time of delivery? Or, do they actually take your trade and leave you with a loaner or something until the delivery?

Thanks! I've been giddy since the day my fiance suggested I buy one (I didn't even have to ask! Yay! ).

I would try to sell your trade in privately a little bit before your jeep arrives. It will save you thousands of dollars, as dealers will usually give you 25-50% of its fair market value.

as far as the trade(in my case)i walk in know what it was worth(Kelly blue book ect...)got their offer $200.00 more.now the tricky part the trade my be worth less when your jeep built.in the real world price go up and down on used jeeps mostly down as you put more miles in it and ware and tear.in my case it only took 3 1/2 weeks for my order and i got the same trade in price.this 3 to 8 weeks can also give you time to sell you trade on your own and make more $$$$ but take in to account that on a trade in most states you do not pay tax on the amount of the trade.this was $850.00 in my case.also if you sell to soon you my need to rent a car.so you have some math to do to see if you can save by selling yourself.i also went to carmex(if you have one) and got how much their would pay to buy($50 less the my jeep dealer).

They gave me very fair trade for my Jeep luckily. Granted it was a 2001 with only 31,000 miles on it. I had it for sale privately for $500 more but all I got was tire kickers. Also, remember when you trade in you only pay tax on the difference left over after the trade. So if the Jeep your looking at is $20,000 and they give you $10,000 on your trade. You only pay tax on the $10,000 difference. In some states (cough NY) that could add up to a couple hundred bucks more on your trade.

I talked to the Sales Manager today about my trade and due to the fact is so low mileage and not about to roll a major mileage #, say 60,000 miles, they are going to let me keep it until my new Jeep arrives. I have a signed sales contract stating exactly how much my trade and the new vehicle was so when it arrives I just show up with a bank check of the difference. Couldn't have been simpler. They said when they get confirmation that the Jeep is say on the train etc, they may give me a loaner until the new Jeep arrives.

Default no haggle pricing?

If one of you doesn't mind letting everybody know, where do you work that you get a discount or no haggle pricing?

Both my wife and I work for Corning. Not sure why we get the discount, they may lease their fleet vehicles from them or something.
