How Lucky You Are
As I have stated in an earlier post I sold my TJ in 06 because I couldn't afford two car payments. I thought I would get over it, much like I did when I sold my 65 VW bus, oh how wrong I was.
I sold it to a yuppy that was going to keep it at his vacation home in AZ. The thought of someone else driving my jeep was like thinking of someone with my girlfriend, it made me sick. A vacation home runabout BLAH!.
But I digress. I have hopes of owning a JK in the future (sooner than later I hope) and after lingering on this forum I want to get back in a jeep for all of the typical reasons but also for reasons I forgot.
For example...
I miss driving with my girlfriend, now wife, from SoCal to the Sequoias to camp then, from there, to Placerville (just outside of Tahoe) then on to Oregon and home with nothing but a bikini top (the jeep, not the girlfriend. She burns). There is nothing like the central valley in 105 degree heat and a bikini top.
I miss the flutter of the top at highway speeds, the cold mornings when the seats are wet from dew, driving home at night wearing a ski cap and heavy jacket which are always kept under the seat for cases like these. In case you hadn't noticed I only had a soft top and that was seldom on.
I miss never having to lock your doors.
I miss watching the backside of that same girlfriend as she grabs onto the roll bar and climbs in to the cab. She always thought it was so polite that I held the door for her.
I am not going to lie. I miss the wave.
Finally and maybe most importantly I miss the comradery of belonging to a fraternity that few understand, after all it is a jeep thing.
So as you drive in your JKs with their scratched dashes, occasional leaky tops, and all of the good that comes with them take a moment and realize how luck you are.
You drive one of the most enigmatic, iconic cars to ever role off the assembly line.
And until I am able to watch my wife's backside climb into my new JK, a big stretch thanks to the 3" lift and 35's, I will be putting around in my Element which ironically takes me out of my element.
So if you are in SoCal and you see a guy in a green Element longingly staring at your rig give me a wave, for old time sake.
Thanks,
Sully

Yeah, I catch myself dreaming of more mods and getting discouraged that they don't come fast enough or there's never enough money for them....then once in awhile I stop to consider how lucky I am to have the JK at all!

I remember driving my YJ from Ohio to Utah with everything I owned in or on it. I had the top off and got caught in a rain storm in a traffic jam in Illinois. Everyone stared at me with sorrowfull looks on their faces. I just grinned and cranked up the music.
Thanks for the post Sully! Well stated!
imagine how much money your saving making your jeep look, ride, and 4 wheel better, imagine all of us being raped trying to afford a god damn bumper or some rocker guards, or a winch. see, theres somthing you have to remember, we all love our jeeps but they take alot of money to make them "more" lovable. while those elements are cute as a button, theres realy nothing you can do to help them be anything better.

Hope you can get back into your proper element soon!

However as I drive on in my JK I can only say.........
