better off removing the rear seat all together, and you may be able to lay one down in the back and stack the others on top of it, ratchet straps or some sort of tie down will be your friend

Hm, I fit 4 stock sport tires. But couldn't see too well out the back. That was with the backseat folded all the way up, not pulled out.
My guess is you could probably fit 4 but that may be pushing it.

4 - 5 tires
I just did this last week with 4, so heres how i did it.
1)You MUST remove the rear seat.
B) Push pass. seat all the way up and fold up the backrest
B.1) Three 35's can fit side by side across the bed of the JK
F) One can then be pushed flat against the two 'most passenger' side tires.
so theres 4. If you have a fifth, put it on your spare tire carrier.

I had 5 33"X12.5" tires in my TJ which isn't as wide or as long as the JK.
I had the back seat out and both front seats in the upright with no recline, and the passenger seat half way forward. I stuffed four in the back the way described early and was able to put one in the front seat. It was a little uncomfortable and difficult driving because the tire in the front was in the way of the stick, but I only had to drive from the truck around the mall to the tire shop.
