i used it on my fender flares and it came out a little to aggressive for me so my fix was , go over it with regular bed liner that will smooth it out , they might even have colors just keep it clean around the floor plugs this is how mine turned out on the front bumper and flairs

According to http://www.autofacts.ca/herculiner/faqs.htm#que10

How can I remove HERCULINER once it's applied?
You can use Xylene while product is still wet, but if it dries, it's permanent.

methyl ethyl ketone or MEK. it will take off anything and is very very hazardous. i've used it on aircraft to remove paint, epoxies, decals, or whatever. hell it would even eat through the gloves that were supposed to protect us from it.

Should've read the documentation before you started... Herculiner is permanent.

A buddy of mine accidentally spilled brake fluid on his. It caused some of it to peel off. He had to reapply.

So, if you really want it off, give that a shot.

EDIT - sorry didn't realize how old this post was..

Bingo!

Also try a quality (almost impossible to find) lacquer thinner, urethane grade reducer, aircraft grade paint stripper (not the garbage you find at Home Rip-Off). If you use any of these I highly recommend doing it outside along with a N95 charcoal respirator.

Herculiner being a single component (uncatalyzed) product is nowhere near a permanent coating. It might take a lot of wipes with a solvent to remove it but it will come off. I guarantee it.

Now, for a less likely chance of getting high or an explosion here's a great sanding device that attaches to a 7" sander/grinder/buffer which would be perfect for the bigger removal jobs:

AES 51886, 6", Nylon Filament Cup Brush
This unique nylon filament cup brush is made of a special nylon filaments impregnated with silicon carbide. This nylon brush lasts up to six times longer than conventional wire brushes. Nylon filament cup brush uses include frame and body cleaning, polishing, deburring, scrubbing and brightening, surface refinishing and decorative finishing. Safe for use on metal, wood, aluminum, and plastic surfaces.
Specifications of the Nylon Filament Cup Brush:

* 6" Diameter Nylon Brush with 5/8" x 11 Thread, attaches to most brands of Sander/Polishers.
* Max R.P.M. : 6,500
* Non-Sparking [Will not react with metal]
* Non-Oxidizing
* Will not load or clog while in use

Salesman Notes: This nylon filament cup brush is a must have for prepping a bed before using any type of DIY roll-on or spray-in bed liner material in the bed of you truck or for sound deadening. This will cut your prep time in less than half. Why work harder when you can work smarter and be more productive?
I've sprayed no less than 100 bedliners in my day and the last 10 I've sanded the surface with one of these. One can sand a CC F-150 in 10 minutes.....but anyway i bring this up because this should rip right through the herculiner. Now it will be dusty as all get out and probably smell but it should be faster than aircraft grade stripper or MEK saturation and a whole lot less risky if you will.
