Hybrid JK?
 

I had a crazy idea. I wonder if it possible to even have a hybrid jk. I figure some one will call me crazy, I just wanted to see what thoughts are on it. I know they have the EV. I think its pretty cool for a mall crawler. Right now mine is a daily driver on road, and would love to see the gas hand not go down so far so fast.

Actually an all electric Jeep Wrangler fully has the potential to put our gas burners to shame, regardless of what some other uninformed posters around here might think about it. An electric motor is pure torque and unlike a gas motor it doesn't have to spin up in RPMs to get it's maximum torque. It has maximum torque instantly. We all know that torque is the key to off roading.

The next thing they are going to hit you with is that you can't run an electric motor through water and mud. BS. They already make electric motors that you can completely submerge in water and they still run, completely unaffected and they do not transfer their electric charge into the water. This is easily adaptable to the kind of electric motor that might power your Jeep. Hell Jeep's have been fording streams for decades and amazingly the battery and alternator survive the trip and nobody gets shocked.

So in conclusion I would say that yes a hybrid Wrangler is not only possible, it's also possible that it would be a better off road vehicle than our gas burner JK.

I am interested in the all electric version in the future. I wouldn't buy any of the first few years of something like that.

Black08X is right, the all electric ones would make great 4x4 vehicles provided that they can make everything water proof (which they can) and everything is relaible(wait a few yars).

As for the original post... all hybrids suck.

What is said about the the elec motor is right. It has power form the start. I like the fact they are quite and you can sneak around haha. Late night out get home, form a friends house family asleep.

All I can find seems to say that they have only 2wd version at the moment, but I dont see why a T-case cant be put in and make it 4wd. I would not mind haven a 4wd EV as there is no noise other then the little motor and you can still go on your long trips because of the small motor.

I know they can make a 4wd EV but they would have to change around the rear area of the jeep to put battries. I think i could deal with it not like its going to use all the space. I am aslo a daily driver and it would be nice to see only spending only $20 instead of $50 per tank.

Yes, electric motors are pure torque. My husband builds electric vehicles (sorry, no Wranglers, only hot rods). I would never buy a hybrid, only full electric.

Not really hybrid but I would buy a hemi JK with the MDS technology where half the cylinders shut off when cruising...
