Default I am canceling mygig because...

I found this thread on the jeepforum.com.

Due to the fact that one cannot redirect while driving I will not purchase the mygig.

I do own a portable Tom Tom that can redirect to other POI's while driving. It seems that with the mygig, you have to stop to reset the GPS POI.

My dad has a built in GPS in his Lexus and same thing there, you need to stop, park and then enter another POI. Sucks really bad if you are on the highway and need to find a specific POI on your route.

Also the dirt trail routing doesn't seem to work well

I have ungiged the mygig today

From a thread at jeepforum.com

"MyGig first impressions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After playing with it this weekend it still has a few bugs. I have only played with the Nav features as of yet.

The way it routes you blows A**... It has all the dirt roads on my area but it refuses to route you down any. I select shortest route and it take you 8 miles out of your way. As you pass by the turn, heading the correct way it will eventually reroute you in a shorter route.

When you search for all the nearest POI's. I shows you are on page 1 of 12 but no button to scroll to page two (most likely programming a bug).

The only other annoying thing is that you have to be stopped to use many of the search screens. Say you are routing to your favorite trail, and then decide you want to grab a bite to eat. You need to stop to type in the place you want to eat. I know it's a safety thing but when you have a passenger that can do the typing you still have to stop.

The radio features work great but if you are the type of person that likes to skip around looking for something better on the radio, your arm will get tired. No knob to rest your hand on.

More to come as I play with it more..."

Get the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 with bypass and you can do all the re-directing you want.

You really had me worried when you said you couldn't redirect or find POI's while driving....so I went to the Nitro forum to get some feedback from those on there that have received MyGigs. I was very specific in saying "Can you do it WITHOUT using the voice command, ie. touchscreen only".

My question:
Hi there....I have a MyGig on order and I noticed a couple of you already have them. Could you please answer one question for me.
Can you input new information such as POI MANUALLY WHILE you are driving?
Meaning...not using the voice command but using the touch screen.
Thanks for you help.

Here is the reply from one owner.
you sure can

POI local area this finds the POI nearest where the vehicle is....like atm's, gas stations, restaurants, shopping, lodging, etc you can do this while driving with touch screen

POI nearby destination basically same as above but finds a POI you want (such as a gas station) near your destination you can do this while driving with touch screen

POI in map area just as it says it finds a lets say atm in the are shown on the whole map area you can do this with touch screen while driving

I hope this helps with what you have heard.

Default mygig

I based my decision on the mygig with the post from the jeep owner posted on Jeepforum.com.

Maybe I'm just tired of what the mygig can and can't do etc.
I will try to contact the post on jeepforum.com and ask if he is doing it right.

As of right now I have deleted the mygig from my order.

I don't care about routing on off road. I won't ever route on off road, I just want the map and a blip where I am.

I deleted it because of the lack of uconnect and the delays it was causing for my build.

But still, sounds like it's not all the glitter and gold it appeared to be...and thats always a bummer.

That would be great if you could verify with him again.
I certainly hope it isn't true. I would be highly disappointed if you can't redirect the thing while driving. That is pretty useless.
We have one in our Honda and you can make all sorts of changes with the touchscreen while driving.
Don't you just love the guessing game we play with this thing!
And yet we are (some of us) still suckers enough to give them this kind of money for something we don't know for sure what it can and can't do.....

Default mygig while driving

I sent a question to warriorbob at the Nitroforum
http://www.nitroforumz.com/showthrea...ed=1#post11755

according to warriorbob, he is able to do the redirect with the touchscreen.

I am unable to log on to jeepforum.com to confirm that the redirect does not work.

if someone can log on to jeepforum and ask laserpunk if he is able to redirect while driving then I may change my mind regarding mygig

Thanks

I posted two questions regarding mygig on another jk board forum
Here are the replies:

Question #1:
==============
To anyone who has a mygig:

I had a mygig on order and have a question regarding using the GPS. I am getting different answers regarding using POI while driving.

Question is, while you are driving and have a POI end point inputted. can you add another POI while you are driving using the touch screen, or do you have to stop to add another POI?

Sometimes, if I am traveling, I would like to add a POI, a certain lunch or dinner place and don't want to stop to add that POI.

Also, does the voice recognition work when using the radio or the GPS system?

Thanks in advance

Mike

================
Answer to question #1

you have to be stopped to add anything other than preset destinations or previous routes.
