Hey guys so here's the deal I got the whole getting the jeep down...my dad has a very good down payment set, but here's the deal...the insurance costs more for the jeep than the jeep itself. Even with the good student discount and every other discout there is! Even with like a TJ its expensive! I need help this is the only thing stopping me! My mom asked the lady about the camaro but that's even more! She said not to get ANY kind of sports car cuz the company thinks guys r irrisponsible...I need a car soon and I'm not gettin no rice burner does nyone have any ideas...I'm with state farm.

Btw I have college in like 7 months and will be moving to michigan so idk if that changes anything.

Sorry guy, unless you get married or can turn 25 faster than maybe a full size 4x4 truck might be more affodable ins. wise.

Yeah.. A Jeep insurance is pricey... Im 23, have a red, 2 door, 6 spd. Not to mention that its a "SUV" with a high theft/break in rate. There is also the wheeling portion of things as well.. Im at about $530 every three months.. Its going to be high.

Before my Jeep I had a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, 2 door 5 speed with the 2.2L motor.. Insurance company labeled it a medium class sports car.

The ins companies suck, but thats life. Not much you can do about it, Sorry bro.

Where you're located will change your rates--some areas have high risk for theft (such as probably where you live because of the border with Mexico), while others have high risk for hail (such as where I live). Also, do follow the advice to check out some other insurance companies. Unless you qualify for USAA*, there's absolutely no reason to be loyal to a company or agent. Prices go up and down for the companies all of the time and one six month cycle one will have the best rate by far, and another six month cycle another will. You might try progressive.com for quick, easy, multiple company quotes. But don't stop your search there. Also consider higher deductibles. That means if something happens you'll be more money out of your pocket, but if you set that money aside in advance (resist the urge to spend it on mods--LOL), you could save enough to recover the expense over enough time.

*If you do qualify for USAA (mom or dad or you are active duty military or a veteran), don't bother with any other company. No one beats their rates. You can get a quote online (but only if you have the military connection--they check your/the sponsor's identity against military records somehow).

If you want a Sports Utility, the least expensive of those to insure would be a Ford Explorer. See if you can get a 4x4 Explorer for a decent price - still capable off road. But like others have said, till you turn 25 and/or get married, insurance on most vehicles, especially off-road capable vehicles or sports cars of any kind (even a 2-Door Focus or a Civic) is expensive.
