I am looking to buy a hoist a top for my hard top. Does anyone out there have one? Do they work. Thanks for your help. Any other suggestions would be great.

No. Nobody makes one. Nobody knows how to make one. Nobody knows anything about them. Kinda like the search feature.

Lange Manual Hoist-A-Top. I have one and it is pretty much a pain in the a** to use and not worth the money. I have taken it off and put it back on alone instead of using it if that is any indication. Comes with a come-a-long, which is the wrong tool really. Lowering something heavy with a come-a-long from 3 or 4 feet up takes forever. I would use the money on something else. The powered version may be better, but most likely not

Default Smart A$$

Smart A$$ What do you expect from a RedNeck?

Anyway I am looking into hoists too. Here is a thread that is all about home lifts and the seem to save you a few $ and seem to have more storage options. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-write-ups-39/hardtop-hoist-storage-write-up-5559/

I made one for mine using a boat winch, 2 pulleys, 2 eye hooks, 2 carabeaners, and some rope. It worked great and cost me about $20. I moved 2 weeks ago so I'm goint to have to rebuild it. Good luck.

Would you be willing to post a write up or im me the details? I was thinking the same thing just not sure of what all I would need to do for proper lift and support.

Hey Redneck,

Thanks for the kind words, you are a real a$#. You might be the first and only person I don't like on this forum. I tried the search feature. I was just trying to get other peoples opinions and instead I got to waste 10 seconds of my life reading your stupid response.

I mounted the winch on the side wall, then put hooks in the ceiling joist above that, and one in the joist above where I park. I hung small pulleys from the hooks and ran the rope through the pulleys from the winch. I tied the 2 caribeaners to the end of the rope, and made another piece of rope with 2 separate loops that I could feed through the back glass opening to the door opening on each side, before hooking them back in at the caribeaners. I could then lift the top right off. I used it all last spring and summer with no problems at all. I will admit that with extended use it could damage the seal around the back window, but there's no visible damage to it at this point. With a little padding put on the rope this would be eliminated. When I do it again I may make some extra safety ropes in case of a part failure. I should have taken pictures of it, but didn't.
