Default Ice!!!

Serious ice tonight in Boston. EVERYWHERE!! The new Rubi (and my tires for winter use, GY Wrangler Silent Armors, from the good folks at DTD last month) ran like a champ. Just spent an hour on the road driving home to Brookline from Reading and it was a MESS.

It wasn't a relaxing ride. After I pulled into my garage, I walked up the driveway to the street to check out the conditions and nearly fell twice. I didn't even feel it in the Rubi. What makes me nervous is the other drivers.

You're right! It is the other drivers! But, you can always drive onto the sidewalk, over lawns, etc to get out of the way of junk drivers!

We are getting our Wrangler Silent Armors for Her 08' LWB Rubi this weekend. I have had a set of the Silent Armors on my Cherokee for 3 winters now and I know they grip like hell in the winter. Something tells me that the ESP in the Rubi will make the Silent Armors that much better on her Rubi vs my '99 Cherokee. Can't wait!

Why did you go with the Wranglers over other winter tires?

Research, research, research. I didn't want a straight winter tire and, among the all season ATs, the GY Wrangler SAs rated tops for ice, snow and ride by several reviewers, including some knowledgable folks here at the Forum. None of the others tire options came close in all three categories that matter to me in winter. However, there have been complaints about tread life with this tire, but, since I'll switch back to the stock MTs in spring and have another car, that didn't matter much to me.

Got that storm yesterday. ESP/ABS saved my ass going around a slow hairpin corner that leads to my work parking lot. After which I saw some vehicles ahead of me sliding and fish tailing around, but the JK just motored on through no issues.

Plenty of ice on the backroads on my way into work this AM... passed by a crash on my way in (cops were there already or I would've helped) - a VW Passat had apparently slid across the road and into a tree.

I just took it slow and safe, and didn't even need 4WD, though... the ESP/ETC/LSD did a great job.

Dude you don't have bad winter drivers.... Most Texans have no right to be on ice... Its a madhouse. get this, Monday am we had freezing rain that melted by noon. The front page Tuesday, 57 accidents in 6 HOURS!!!!!!! there is 115K people here! I always knew Texas roads were dangerous in rain, but c'mon!

I can't imagine getting as much ice as you guys do....

Be careful in that ice man... We had an ice storm here last year and my old jeep did great in the ice, but I didn't. Slipped on the way up the drive and knocked out my upper front teeth.
