Default Idea?

Ok so I've been somewhat bored this past week and I can't do much driving in the JK because college is taking up my money so I've been browsing Jeep stuff all week... mainly JK stuff.

Then I got an idea. It's sometimes hard for me to find things on the JK forums. The search is helpful but it still requires alot of digging through individual threads to find the answers I'm looking for. What if I took all of the information on the forums that everyone has posted and made a webpage that was just Jeep JK knowledge. It could include tech write-ups, stuff about TSB's (esp the annoying throw-out bearing TSB), etc, etc...

I'll give an example about what I mean...

Say I want detailed information about what is in my Jeep from the factory or I want to know if I have a JK B, C, or S. Instead of searching Jeep.com I could simply go to my website click the link that says "What's Your Jeep" or whatever and BAM there's all the information I want right there.

Or say I wanted a tech write-up on how to install a switch to bypass my ABS, ESP, and TCS. Instead of searching through here. I could go to my website click "Write-Ups", then click "Wiring" and BAM theres the Write-Up on how to bypass all that stuff.

Naturally I'd give credit where credit is due. I didn't come up with the information. I'm just simply putting it in an organized knowledge base. I figured I'd ask everybody before I started laying the groundwork for this idea.

Input?

Default do it!

I read through something on here, and then a week later, want to read it again, then I can't find the original post. I think this would be a good idea, do it.

I think it's a decent idea. I'm not trying to be a spoiler, but I see two big hurdles/challenges for you:
  1. I don't think you really know how much work you're looking at. I worked on knowledge base software before and it's not trivial.
  2. There are going to be quite a few subjects that are not black and white answers. Therefore, your answers are going to be somewhat subjective. And credibility could be an issue.

Yea I was talking to a friend about it. He says it is a lot of work. I figured I could give it an attempt since I have free time and at the same time I could learn some web design. Hey at the worst I come out with some knowledge of web design under my belt and more knowledge about my JK than I have now.

If you want to do it for the experience I would say go for it. I'm sure we would appreciate your efforts.

Don't forgot programming and database design. You're going to need a database unless you just put everything into static web pages and at that point the utility of the project is lost, because a standard forum search would yield more easy digested results.

I don't have time to do the leg work and do the algorithms for you as I'm crazy busy at work on writing EDI translation algorithms; however, I'd be happy to help you with them if you get stuck. I'd also be happy to review any design documents and give you suggestions.
