Default Insect Control in the JK

Hi, I live near a creek and the last few mornings when I have gone to get in my JK it has been full of mosquitoes.. like several 100 of them! I am leaving my top down under my carport. I wind down all the windows blast the air con and hope they promptly leave but after driving for 40 minutes to get to work there are still a few around.

This morning when I arrived and got in the lift a mosquito flew off me and was buzzing around in the lift kinda embarrassing. I need to sort this out before I get known as the mosquito man. I have a feeling that maybe there is a nest in there somewhere... Any ideas where to look / how to stop this from happening?

Thanks

uhhh... mosquitos nest in pooled water.... so if you have giant puddles somewhere (which is very possible in these things with all of their leaks..) get rid of them???

Otherwise, I have a real spider problem right now.... I've killed a few already... But today, I hopped in my jeep at 530, groggy as hell, and was greeted by a giant spider web to the face when i stepped in...

My top has been up for 7 weeks now... Damn nature!

Do you use any type of air freshener or scented cleaner in your Jeep? Something is probably attracting them.

Hmmm I have had a drink spill into the handbrake from the cup holder but that was a week ago or so Im sure it would have dried up by now, its been about 37C here (98F) and I have been topless the whole time. No scented cleaners or anything.

I could introduce some spiders to eat the mossies!!

how about covering the jeep, fumigating it with those canned things, then drive without the top the next day to get rid of the smell.
just a thought.

Hey Dave,

I'm in Jane Brook and right next to the brook as well...at this time of year the brook has turned into a string of puddles which are perfect for mozzie breeding...

We bought a Mortein mozzie 'scarer'(?) which plugs in and heats up a pad impreganted with some chemical they hate...you could run an extension cord out and try that? You can also get those high frequency emmitting jobbies. II think you can get battery powered ones but not sure where from.
Or...buy a couple of mozzie coils and burn them while you are getting ready for work?
Crazy ideas, I know...

I had a similar problem once before and I suspected they were attracted to condensation pooling somewhere in the aircon system.

Maybe they are attracted to some odor (human or otherwise) coming from your Jeep. What about a simple cover thrown over the Jeep at night, possibly an old sheet, mosquito netting, etc.? Easy to pull off in the morning.

Sweat is the number one smell they are attracted to.

i will take the spiders and mosquitos anyday! Not in my jeep, but my mercedes became infested with fire ants... its giving me chills just thinking about it. I opened the door one day, at work, and it looked like i had dropped an M80 in an ant pile. They went everywhere. So i spent the next week spraying and killing and smashing... all the while i would be driving and see a few ants crawling up my arm towards the steering wheel... and biting... they would run across the winshield the dashboard... center console... etc.
