Most insurance compaines will offer what is known as a "comprehensive" insurance policy. This is above collision and liablity. It covers things like theft and damages to the property. I've owned several after market stereo's in the past and always kept such a policy on my vehicles.

From my understanding the rule of thumb is this. It has to be BOLTED to the vehicle to be covered and you have to have proof, generally a photograph, that you had the parts in question mounted to the vehicle. Reciepts help to.

So, for example a Hi-Lift jack would not be covered because it's not a PART of the vehicle. A suspension lift WOULD be covered. Now how much coverage you have is between you and your insurance company. I go through State Farm personally and my responses and experiences are based on dealings with them.

ha ha, it's funny you mention this....when I wanted to enquire about this with my insurance company they told me they could no longer insure me any longer because I had modified my vehicle ridiculous....my new insurance company said they didn't care what was on my vehicle it should all be covered under comprehensive as stated

You do understand that comprehensive coverage would only cover your vehicle for theft, vandalism, falling object etc. and would not cover your vehicle if it is involved in an accident or for trail damage? Also, some policies exclude coverage once your are a certain number of feet from a road. Lots of things to consider if you are using a standard auto policy to cover your JK.
