Insurance Help - After an Accident
Hi all!
Ok, long story short I was rear-ended almost a month ago. It forced me into the vehicle in front of me as well. So, both my front and rear bumpers got messed up - among other things. There are some unknowns such as the exhaust system and some body work that needs to be done. I have had three estimates done on the car and they were wildly different. So, I authorized this last and final shop to do a complete tear down to get an actual estimate. It turns out they are also an approved shop for the insurance company of the insured that hit me - the one at fault and they are of course paying for everything.
My question is this. I am too far along now to just request a check. This shop has my car all torn apart. If I go ahead and approve them to do the work they have estimated just over $600 for the front OEM bumper to be replaced. Does anyone know if I can have them put a different bumper on if it costs less?? I've got my eye on a couple of different front bumpers and they are about that or less. Do they have to replace it with the stock bumper or do you think the shop could put a different bumper on as long as it doesn't cost more than the purchase of an OEM bumper?
Hope this makes sense. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Like I said at this point there are a few unknows and I'd rather not just take a payout. I'd rather leave it at a shop that will go back and beat on the insurance company if they need more money because they discovered something else wrong.
Thanks all!
