Default Jeep Nav Unit is CRAP!

rant

Looking back I would have never got it for $1,800

I got it for my kid to watch DVDs.....FAIL it does not play while in D and does not have a rear monitor like the vans do.
Aslo, U connect stopped working around 7,000. Dealer can't figure it out so they are now getting me a new head unit.
Wish I looked at one close before I ordered it

Get headrest players for the kids if that's a priority. As for things breaking, take heart, my $65K LR3 had failures in just about every electronic category within the first year...some more than once! Shit breaks. Only time will tell if it's a one off problem or a manufacturing defect...either way you will be taken care of by your dealer. Frankie say RELAX!!!

Google search mygig lockpick. It unlocks a whole slew of features like playing dvd's while driving. It is money well spent to make ur mygig more enjoyable.

I test drove a 2011 COD, it had the NAV, I tried using it, it was aweful, I loaded up and figured out where we were going on my iPhone using tomtom fast. So I refused to pay extra for the NAV when looking for a 2011 JKU

If memory serves me right there is an aux video output so you can add monitors in the rear. I think jeep had a kit for it.

If you want to play DVD for the people in the back seat.. getting the Nav screen unlock is no good. They can't see the screen from the angle they are seating.

Try getting one of the portable DVD player with the swivel screen. You can velcron it on the center console

This is one of the better ones now:
sony portable dvd player dvp-fx970

Wrong! I have the MyGig Lockpick V4 and it completely unlocks the RHR unit. DVD in motion, Nav input in motion and backup cameras all work flawlessly. Not to mention that it syncs my contacts just fine. it's also the nav unit used on Wranglers. I couldnt fine one on the lot that had any other nav unit...

No lock pick for this unit either that I know of. It doesn't sync at all either contacts, phone numbers, addresses. BIG WASTE of MONEY!!!!!

When buying a car, there is one rule of thumb that you cannot ignore: The more electronic gizmos the vehicle has, the more shit you have to break.

I almost purchased an '11 Rubicon with leather and navigation... there was no way to rationalize buying a Jeep with those two features, they go against the very essence of the vehicle.
