1) x3 on the quick ref database. Torque settings. Service schedule. etc.

or

2) They already have these, but one that is customizable to your JK....a Gas/Maintenace tracker. May sound odd, but you could have something that you can log when you installed your 35in tires. Or how many miles and the date and time you got out of your factory front drive shaft before you tore the boot. Again, they have stuff like this, but I would get the app if it was more geared towards my JK. heck I could even upload pics of the installs/mods

or

3) Again, a spin off of apps that are already out there, but something that you can turn on and it locates other JK owners around you. Some may not like cause a dirtbag crimminal could use it, but something like Loopt. Kinda like a buddy beacon. Again, you could turn this feature off so you can't be tracked/found when you don't want to be. But lets say you see on your iphone a few JKs grouped together at a local restrurant. Maybe you didn't get word that there was a get-together...well now you get to meet other JK owners

an app that allows you to trace the trails that you ride, and have an option to make them publicly available or kept privet

The girl in the Jeep boobs bouncing commercial, when you hit a bump, they bounce...:rotflmao2:

Service manual...that would be cool.

Clinometer

Clinometer is a cool iPhone App (I've got the free version)... but I'd like to see a more jeep / off-road centric version.

Features? How about a customizable roll-over warning?

I like the idea of a trail tracing app someone mentioned earlier too, but that would only work using GPS on the 3G iPhone. This is cool: pathtracks.com

A trail alert or some sort of trail locator map app that ties into a trails database would be cool. Maybe you could coordinate that with an existing website like 4x4Trails.net or a similar site. Often when traveling , I don't have time to do all of the necessary research to find a place to wheel... it would be cool to have an app that has all off the ORV parks and such tagged with directions, comments and links to their websites. It could use your current location, and show pins on the map.

Saw this is coming soon: marvelapps.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13&It emid=49

Mapping seems to be popular in the App dep't: appbeacon.com/apps/064117/colorado-north

what do you need to know to become an iphone app developer? like programming?

mmcan 08-17-2009 08:39 PM

Trail maps and nearby repair shops that are reviewed/approved by the community of jeepers on an ongoing basis.

most gps and clinometers have already been done.

So i say get your teeth stuck into making and OBDC version of a gauge same as this thread below and sell it for at least $70 with a cable. even the rev program does not do this you have to buy a wifi dongle which is $150. (Made in Germany )

Good luck with the programming.
