Here is the official Jeep Wave web site. This is pretty cool, I heard about this on my other forum a few years back... well worth the click:

I've found the key in a JK is to initiate the wave. CJ and YJ drivers always seemed shocked when a JK Unlimited is waving - lot's o' turds finally coming out of the woodwork to buy the 4 door and for too many of them it's their first jeep so they are unclear about the wave, jeep thing, etc. Too busy cutting people off with the phone stuck in their ear and not paying attenting to what's going on. If this is your first jeep be polite to other jeepers.
Please God, make the rain stop so I can take the top off for more than an afternoon.......
Regards
My wife and I actually did the same thing, we talked prices first and test drove second. This will be our third Wrangler to own, and we are very happy to be able to get back into one. A few words of advice about the Jeep wave... most slightly to heavily modified Jeeps (YJ, TJ, XJ) owners will expect the stock Jeep to wave first. Down here next to the beach 95% of Jeep owners except for the ZJ's will return a wave.
After I sold my TJ, it took me many months to stop doing the wave, I would get some strange looks
