I have posted a few threads and been roaming around the site for a few weeks because I am looking into buying a new Unlimited Rubi. I have previously owned a '97 TJ and a '05 LJ Rubi. I currently do not own a Jeep and am in need of my Jeep fix...

As I said, I have been "roaming" around this site pretty much daily since I started looking in to buying a new Jeep. I have really been surprised in the number of issues and problems that have been reported with the JK's. Everything from the "stall bug" issue to small stereo or brake issues, and even the "bursting into flames" issue!

With that said, I am starting to second guess buying a new JK over getting a used '04-'06 TJ Rubi. I never had a single issue with my '05 or '97. The '05 had over 30k miles on it in a year and a half, problem free. Are there really this many issues with the JK's? I realize this site only represents probably 4-6% of JK owners, but that could mean even more issues.

I really would like to get a 4 dr. Rubicon. I think it is a great looking vehicle and finally a wrangler with a decent amount of practicality. However, it would be a daily driver and would not be something I would want to, or could afford to fix regularly due to problems.

What is the general consensus on issues with your JK? I just need a reliable Jeep, and if I am going to spend $30k on one I don't want it to be at the stealership regularly when I could have spent $18k on a '04 Rubi and have no issues...Hopefully problems are not as common as it seems, but I'm trying to get an idea of how many of you feel that you're taking you JK in for problems/issues more often than you should. Toad is right. On here you are going to hear all the bad things that going. I've had some issues with mine (leaking hardtop and clutch squeak) But over all I'm happy with my Unlimited Rubicon. If you are worried about some of the issues you might wait till the '09 comes out and see if people are saying about them.

 

I think the problems are overblown as well. With this many people you are going to hear about issues but I've had no problem with mine and my Dad and Brother both own one as well and haven't had any issues.

Check out this thread, I think you'll see that most do not have any issues, certainly nothing major. Any new vehicle is likely to have something go wrong or get installed incorrectly. The vast majority though have no major issues and I certainly would not let the few that have had issues turn you away.

I work in a customer service sort of role.

That said- people with negative opinions are LOUD. You'll hear a lot more negative than positive.

I love my unlimited rubi. Wouldn't trade it for anything!

 

This type of thread seems to pop up every week or so. And like everyone said you'll always hear the bad over the good in at least a 10:1 ratio. There have been two recalls on the JK and both of them have been related to software issues and were resolved with a flash that took a few minutes for the dealership to complete. There are certain issues with every vehicle model and I'd be surprised if you found a site for any type of vehicle that wasn't very similar to what you see here.
