Jump Seats?
Anyone have any leads, comments, suggestions?
To be more specific - not looking for a third row - necessarily - I know someone has one out there but it's my understanding no one has installed it or has any experience with it. We're looking for something much more rugged that can be thrown in - taken out - at will - probably would be facing each other.
It seems that we have a very popular vehicle and I'd prefer to have some extra seatbelts in the back when the dogs aren't in there. Have a feeling I really did need to wait for the 6 door version.
And yes, this is in reference to off-roading - beaching in particular. We are headed there again and I was just informed that my older 2 kids were bringing friends. We've fit 9 uncomfortably (we're just heading down the beach to the store - on a very bad road - and everyone piled in). When the older kids go - there will no doubt be 6 or 7 - I'd really feel more comfortable having a couple of extra seatbelts.
No I didn't get yellow and I don't want one of those small buses...!
Thoughts?

I have the same issues. My family includes five and if my MIL or my dad wants to go anythere with us, I have to take two cars. I thought about building a frame with a PRP bench and harnesses that could pin in and could easily be removed. I thought about making it interchangeable with my TJ so I only had to buy one bench that I could use in both. After looking, I think that only one solo seat would work as a jump seat to be safe. PRP has the children and teen seats that I think would fit nicely. Maybe a bench would work if you mounted it backwards?
I have the exact same situtation. I need jump seats in the back for those extra teenagers. It seems my oldest two can't go anywhere without a buddy in tow. The 5 of us with each teens buddy leaves the JK short on seats.
If anybody finds any options out there, please let us know.

Hi, all. I'm actually working with a company to have a jump seat installed in my Jeep (just waiting for the seat upholstery to be finished). PM me and I will send you info if you're interested (can't post 'em here since they aren't sponsors of the forum).

Adding a bench is basically as easy as drilling holes and bolting it down. You can add a bench to anything. Now to make it easy to remove/replace is a little harder. The problem is seats or not the jeep is only built for 5 and if you are talking teenage/grown sized people you may overload it especially in the weight department. For example and I am talking boys here count yourself and two teenagers who play football that would be at least 600# (200# each) throw in a friend each teen (still on the team) and that gets to be #1000 then add the wife and a smaller kid and you got 1250# minimum. What is the jeep's overall payload capacity? I think it was around 900# but I am not sure I will check it in the morning if no one else chimes in.

Call me fortunate - my crew (except myself) are relatively small - for the six of us plus dogs we are barely breaking 800#. Even with the cousins / boyfriend / girlfriend minus the dogs we are just pushing 875. We fly a bunch so we are actually pretty cognizant of weights.
OK OK so my wife is petite and two of the kids are under 8!
The bench went through my mind for a very short period of time - we really need to be able to yank it out easily.
Now that we're not rushing - I'd rather do the install but finding the jump seats is the issue. I thought of trying to build that too but I've already got too many build projects as it is let alone all the ones the Jeep has taken priority over in the house!
FzyPchz - I clarified the rules with Eddie and the issue with posting is that you can mention the name - just can't post the link or put the www in the name. I'll pm you also.
Thanks to all - here I thought i was the only loon out here!

Yea, good point about the weight adding up. I never thought of that.
Thankfully my kids are all girls and skinny as a rail so I think we will be fine as a family and adding 2 more kids. But I will have to keep that in mind if it is adults.
Thanks for bringing that up.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to check out my seat tonight for any sagging (I have my 3 year old and his car seat set up in the middle!)
