Are you positive the sound you are hearing isn't spark knock? I have dealt with both the pinging and heat shield rattle and while similar, they definitely sound different. Does your motor use oil? If so, and with the miles on your motor, it definitely is very possible your cat is clogged with oil because that is where it goes. If it does use oil, that can cause some of the pinging. Also, these motors are known to carbon up around the valves. Not saying this is the problem, but you might try switching to 10w30, replacing the pcv valve, and running a good carbon cleaner like CCC through the intake. Those things helped with my problems

It's sounds like it's the tranny im going to the dealer in the morning but thanks man . I just changed pcv valve two days ago. And use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant with fuel injector cleaner. New plugs cleaned throttle body check exhaust manifolds and heat shields. Got it to do it In N yesterday it mostly when under load driving it makes a ton of noise . So I got under and listen and my wife pumped the gas and I could hear it coming from the tranny like a loose heatshield kind of sound weird ? Jeep runs great short of the racket .its got 90 thousand kilometers not miles . And I thought spark nock too changing tunes and octane and so on but no go . And it's does lose oil but think its leaking on passenger side somewheres blocks covered in oil. Will have that looked at to . Never smokes ?and pcv vavle was fine when I changed it but had new one

I still believe its a heat shield. There are more than two. The one that goes on the exhaust pipe under trans and connects the two sides of motor into one pipe. It has little feet that are poorly tack welded to the exhaust pipe and if one weld is broken, u wont see it unless u gently pry upward on each leg to ensure its firmly attached.

I called myself checking my high rev rattle heatshields too, then went to dealer with noise. They showed me the heat shield that i checked twice and then when they did the pry test one leg was snapped smooth off the pipe but when they let go it looked perfect again. They rewelded it and no more noises!

So much hostility from all....cant we all just get along??? The OP is just frustrated, I have been there, although not with my Jeep but with the Tacoma some people lurking this forum seem to love.

I cant help the OP, but I understand his frustration. Everything that has broken on my Jeep is a result of Mods I have done. Lucky to have not had any other issues yet.

Hope you gte it fixed brotha!

Mine does the same. It's the valves chattering it does it more when in lower rpms. When the motor is under a load, like going up hills and luging around.
