The K&N Myth
Hmmm... and if this is completely true and accurate, then why is it that K&N (among others) are still in business, and haven't been sued to the brink of oblivion? Don't believe everything you read - neither manufacturers' claims, nor "unbiased" tests refuting those claims.
I can only speak from personal experience: adding my AIRAID netted me an additional 1-2 MPG, vastly improved the sound of my engine, and (based on the ever-so-unscientific seat of the pants measurement) provided a slight improvement in throttle response, versus the stock air filter and housing.

Personally, I think a lot depends on each application. I've had some bikes that ran much better with the K&N, but the one I have now performs better w/ the stock filters. I'm sure autos are the same way.
As far as the JK, I'm with 888... Love the sound and I do seem to feel a difference, which makes me happy whether it is real or not.
Also, if nothing else it's nice to have a re-useable filter and not have to buy them all the time.
And besides, how many of our mods are really performance based and not just because they give us the look we want on our vehicles?

On my bike, the fiber K&N draws more dust than the foam UNI i have on it presently, this is from my highly unscientific method of taking it off and looking at the intake tube behind it.
I like K&N's just fine, I just think that the ones i used needed a pre-filter (soc) that i oiled to block the fine stuff. This DOES effect Jetting and performance. THe UNI flows about the same amount of air when oiled, but doesnt last as long before requiring replacement as it takes a beating when being cleaned. Again, this is by my highly unscientific method of having to rejet the bike to make it run the same, and the depletion of cash in my wallet (filter socks are cheaper than complete new filters.)
Overall in my opinion? Dead even draw between a pre-filtered K&N and an oiled UNI. I have ran both on my bikes, and still would. I dont have a clue about the others. Besides, higher octane fuel and Royal purple block all the dust anyhow, we know those are the end-all be-alls of vehicle maintenance.

While I admit this could be the case, I certainly wouldn't take some random dumbass's article on benzforum's word for it. Just like I wouldn't write a paper based on wikipedia.
