keep the Jeep?
I am considering selling my jeep, only because it gets used to drive 3 hours to and from the beach nearly every weekend, and only need it for the drive on the beach so i don't have to carry my fishing/beach crap.
I have an old ford focus that I commute back and forth to work in, and drive most of the time. I was thinking that an old CJ jeep would do the job on the beach, and I could just leave it there and not worry about it, and upgrade to a nicer everyday commuter car, since I spend alot of time on the road.
I do offroad other than the beach, but I'm not hard core. Only 2-3 trips a year. In the winter it is nice because I visit my parents often, and it's always snowed in.
So, do I keep the Jeep and Focus or switch to an old CJ and "nicer" daily driver that gets good mileage (maybe a subaru or jetta)?
I put around 45K on a year, and drive 35miles each way to work.
No matter what, i'm going to have a jeep. Just doesn't seem make sense to have one this expensive just for the weekends.
Thanks for your opinions

At first read my 1st thoughts were to dump the Ford and use the Jeep for your DD and off-road rig - but you drive a bunch of miles and I understand cost of gas, etc.
I think if it were me I would go the older Jeep route and get a fuel efficient DD.

That does sound like a lot of miles and fuel you are burning thru when you could leave the jeep at the beach and use the 'beater' car to rack up all the miles and save on fuel and maintenance. and now to sound biased
I am looking for an unlimited 6 speed in Newark, so if you decide to sell it let me know.. and yes I am serious.

I had the issue not to long ago. I have a F-350, a Ranger. I commute 60 miles one way every day in the ranger. I decided to get a jeep for the weekends. After driving the jeep to work a few times I decided to dump the Ranger and drive the shit out of the jeep. My 350 just sites most of the year, but I have it if I need it.
to confuse myself even more, also looking at a willy's just for fun. Had one at my parents when I was 12 and sold it like a dummy. the one I'm looking at is only 500 bucks, I think I'm going to get that. Still want to keep the jk though. can't have too many jeeps
Keep the JK...you will have it for many, many years and it will be a reliable off-roader for those trips. Also, you know the condition of your Jk vs getting a used CJ. For a commuter putting on those miles look at finding a cheaper used DD commuter like another Ford Focus or something in your price range. This way you won't be caring too much on how many miles are racked up on your DD.
Agreed, i do like knowing the history of my JK. And with the lifetime powertrain warranty, i'm not worried about miles.
but just feel like i'm getting raped on my car payment for a car that i drive like 10 days of the month
focus is reliable so far. just fugly.

Keep the JK,, I recently considered getting a TJ after getting my son one because it was less expensive. I figured I would tough it out and keep it for ever. (or until the new ones with hemi's come out) Just keep it. Imagine how sad you would feel walking out and not seeing it sitting there.
Keep the JK. Imagine how well it'll hold its resale value when you don't put hardly any miles on it. Haha. I think just for the snowed in winters going to your parents place its worth it. I went from my YJ, to a Subaru, to my JK, and while the subaru was GREAT in the snow... it just didn't cut it once the snow was deep.
