In addition to the environmental concerns, WD40 will degrade any rubber (seals and such) over time as well. This is also true of any type of petroleum based lubricant.

Why not just use degreaser and a powerwasher!? That's what I do when I finish mudding and the crud just falls off.

i don't have a power washer, but i have a nozzle on a garden hose
what for a degreaser? i want to do this tomorrow, mine is dirty from the winter.
