Default Lake Rubicon :aka water leak

I purchased my 08 Jeep used with 6000 mile and now I think I know why the previous owner was wanting to trade it off:

Went to vaccum the drivers floor mat and noticed it was a bit damp.
Pulled it out and the floor was soaked, lifted the carpet and it was drenched,
Everything else is dry (pass side ,rear, etc)

I haven't noticed any "freedom top" leaks during the past weeks rain, so, either I've got a cowl/firewall leak, or the previous owner is a moron...or maybe both.
Its drying out with a fan as we speak, but..
Any body out there with previous experience with a water leak from the dash/cowl area? I know its still under warranty, but just curious?
"Search results" only found leaks from the top areas.
thanks

Chuck

Take it back to the dealer and let them figure it out. That's what warranties are for.

The top leak can be a little hard to notice while driving it. It will leak through a lot better sitting parked than it will while driving because the wind from driving actually blows the water off. I reinstalled my front panels wrong once and noticed a wet carpet after driving through heavy rains with no drips (It rained for like 12 hours fairly steady). What happened is the slow drip only occured while sitting. Do the "test" by running water from a hose over the seams for a bit while someone looks at the top. It could be as simple as removing and reinstalling the front panels.

Chuck,
That is a real bummer, hated so see that PIC. I hope it is something easy to fix. If you have water leaking in it will be wet in other places. I would take some white paper towles and set them in stategic location and hose down the outside. You can see the discolored paper towel really easy, may help point to the source.

Any chance the drain plug isn't sealed?

Yea, I wondered where most of the water comes in on "typical" top leaks.
It seems like most of ther leak issues I've read about leave the dash and or console wet, but not always.

The water was crystal clear, so I doubt it came up from the road or a drain plug seal problem....they looked tight and in place. The passenger floor is bone dry.

Thanks for the info guys. At this point, I'll dry it out and do a water test in the next few days....If it looks like something major, I"ve got a Jeep dealer down the road with nothing better to do

I thought the factory drain plug was black? Maybe they lost it, stuck the one that you have in (which doesn't fit snugly?) and while you where driving in the rain all that water escaped in?

Man, that sucks. I would take it back to the dealer and let them deal with it. It's probably nothing major since it is only the drivers seat.

Honestly when I saw this title I was hoping for a sweet rubicon shot with a lake in the background or something. Too bad.

Me too, I was getting ready to pull out maps and figure out how I missed Lake Rubicon while wheeling the Rubicon so many times

In the TSB for the leaky top. It says something about the water may be coming in at the front and draining/wicking to another point before it drips. It only takes a few minutes to check and it beats wasting part of a day at the dealer.
